I switched from Coralife to RC after reading that thread because alk. is all I have to dose in my tank so I thought the higher alk. in RC would mean less dosing. My first batch of RC tested out at 7-8 dkh and I thought I was nuts too. I went out and bought new test kits also.

My last bucket that I just finished off tested at 13 alk and 520 ca. My new bucket that I just opened is at alk 14 and ca 520. I have no problems with this, my tank eats up 20 ppm ca and 1 dkh a day. My test kits are new and confirmed with 2 different brand kits.

Oh and my tank stays at about 420-440ppm ca and 8-10 alk even with the high numbers.

hey guys since on the subject of RC would anything bad come from mixing the RC and regular IO salts together.....i didn't want to but i was told it was ok to put RC and IO into the same bucket to use

Mixing the products should be fine.

Yeah you will be fine mixing them RC is IO with more stuff in it all you will do is balance out the higher levels of trace elements.

anyone else test new reef crystals and see a lower alk?

So whats the new reef crystals numbers that chart they posted seams to be the old numbers

The salt products do seem to be updated from time to time. If I get up some energy, I'm going to retest them at some point. The RC numbers should be up to date as of the posting date of the thread. Have they changed the formula significantly?
