Is that a seaclone I see in the back??? if you have trouble getting it to work consistantly I have figured out a mod that really helps.

yes it is a seaclone 100 that i got with the setup. I was already thinking about replacing with a better protein skimmer that I wouldnt mind putting in the sump that I am curently attempting to construct. From what I have read many people seem to have a dislike for these skimmers, I can see why because it doesnt seem to be working I get some light brown gunk in there but not much. Would it be worth tryng to mod it or maybe get a better performing skimmer?

I ordered some Kaelini primium LR, Fiji Buna BranchUltra premium LR , and thirty lbs of Fiji base rock from Ocean pro. I am anxtiosly awaiting its arival:D

Also here is a pic of the canopy that I constructed over the weekend. After I basically destroyed the old one when I tried to install a 48 in reflector and 4x 55w PC. Im pretty pleased with how it turned out since this was my first time doing something like this

Also I have some room in between the PC for some MH for future upgrades
Any comments are appreciated:)

Get rid of the Sea Clone. It's not worth the hastle. I sold mine to a freind, because he likes to mess with DIY projects. He did a couple of the mods and it is still horrible.

also here are my water parimeters:
PH 8.4
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 5.0
Nitrate 0
SG 1.022
How do these look?
Currently I have 60 lb's of LS and only a couple LB's of The LR you see in the above pic.

LR needs to get here soon lol.( I know im still working on my patience)

Ive heard good things about ASM g-3 skimmers but is this to big of a skimmer to put in the 10 g sump im building? ive got a 1200 gph over flow with a mag 9.5 return pump. ( soon to be hooked up hehe) I really want to get rid of the emperer 400 that is currently hanging off the back of the tank and move the rest of the equipment in the sump.

The seaclones are not to swell.I got one when I first got started a few years back. It never worked worth a darn. I would Get a better skimmer down the road for sure. as for improving my seaclone I cut the area of the acrylic tubing (mainbody)off down so it is even with the brown molding where the water returns to your tank. I cut mine on a bandsaw. It makes the skimmer about a inch and a half shorter. this will let the foam get to the collection cup a lot easier. Also i weldon glued the cup to the top of the tube that will come out after cutting the main body. It aint real pretty and you have a big long tube attached to the cup when you dump the gunk. Also I cut the tube in the collection cup dowm about 3/4 inch. I am not saying that this will turn the seaclone into a Remora or a ASM or a DEltec. It did turm my totally useless Seaclone into something that now makes 1 full cup of brown skimate every 2 days. Just trying to be helpfull

your probably right about their not being anything to skim after all there is only a couple fish and a piece of lr in there

And thanks for all the advice on the seaclone I just dont know if its worth the trouble I may just scrap the thing and get a real skimmer.

Ill probably wait till I get my sump done and see if the seaclone improves any down there.
