My backstory:
I've been researching saltwater for a long time. I joined a couple saltwater boards in 2004. Got up to the point where I was answering newbie questions on the other board, and helping people do the math on their plumbing builds. I made up my equipment list, down to every little elbow and widget, and choked on the price. That and I don't have AC, and the chiller just pushed my dream over the edge. So, I eventually switched over to a combo freshwater/saltwater board, slowly drifted out of saltwater conversation, and then dropped the board altogether when a challenging (read crazy and aggressive) dog came to our home, and all my research energy went into figuring out how to prevent and/or fix maladies like his. I now have one angelic greyhound, and one happy, healthy great dane puppy, so my attention is turning back towards my aquarium, and we're hoping to move out of the house with no AC within the year. If the finances are in tact after that move, I'll be able to start a saltwater tank, so it's time to get my head back in the game.
I've also read a lot more about nano tanks since then, and wonder if I might start dabbling there, instead of going for the recommended big beginner tank. They can be more challenging, but I usually have the most fun at a hobby while it's still challenging for me. I've done a bit of FW nano stuff, my 2.5 gallon is nice, my 0.25 gallon was nice before I changed jobs and it's lighting situation. I did a 0.5 brine shrimp tank once, and although it was not very successful, I think I learned a lot from it. I think a 10/20 might be doable.
