Reef Octopus HOB skimmers

Hey guys i just put in an order for the Reef Octopus bh2000, but i was then given the option for the Reef Octopus lx1000s on a discounted rate as the bh2000 was on back order. I checked some reviews and it seems they loved it, but it doesnt have nearly the same amount as the popular bh2000. Either way i went ahead and ordered the lx1000s so a review will be coming regardless.

However do you guys think this was a smart move given the lx1000s higher price? Let me know what your opinions good or bad.

Octopus LX1000S came in today. Quality looks great. Its BIG. Instructions or manual is very vague. However i cannot seem to get it primed and start a syphon. You have to hold your thumb over the silencer air intake when you plug it in but has not worked for me. Tried filling it with different amounts of water. Any tips?

UPDATE: Searched online found a thread from 2011 and someone mentioning how tricky it can be to prime octopus HOB skimmers. I asked for his advice and he so happened to be online, replied, and sucking on the airtube seems to work. PRESTO! it works. So for anyone with an Octopus Reef LX1000S whos having difficulty starting a syphon or priming it, i fill it with water, plugg it in, and sucked on the airtube without the silencer on it.
