Reef Safe Triggerfish

Now normally people come to forums like these to ask questions but I have come to share my expierience with "reef safe" triggers. I have kept triggers from the Melicanthys, Xanthichthys, Odonus and even Balistoides families successfully. I am currently housing a small Sargassum Trigger and a small Niger Trigger. I have in the past kept Pinktail Triggers, Hawaiian Black Triggers, Blue Jaw Triggers, and even the notorious Clown Trigger. I have never had any issues with any triggers in reef tanks except I did have on Niger trigger that did like picking up hermit crabs and then pile them up in a corner but he never killed any. Triggers of the Xanthichthys family (Bluejaw, Sargassum, Kiri, Goldenback, and Crosshatch) by far the best candidates in my opinion because they aren't as agressive of eaters as other triggers. Plus Xanthichthys triggers are beautiful and can be housed in pairs or groups. Removed~dc Here's a few pic's of my current triggers.

Yes it is for sargassum and bluejaws infect i am currently housing my sargassum in a 75 some argue that they need 125+ gallons but as longs as you have plenty of caves, crooks, and crannies a 75 is suitable but nothing less.

I have a sargassm at work who is pushing 10 inches. I would NOT put him in anything less than a 6 foot aquarium, certainly not a 75. This would go for a blue throat as well IMO. I bring in many triggers every week and sargassms are by far the most popular

I do agree that you cannot house them in a 75 for all that long as soon as its 7" long I would defineitly put it in a tank of at least 125 gallons but you can easily house them in a 75 until they get to that size.

I agree...no decent sized trig should be in a 75...especially one that is 7 inches...

+2 ,,my red tail would go nuts in a 75 ,i'm sure of that ..Nigers grow faster than any trigger i've ever seen..Mine doubled in 6 months ..IMO ALL triggers need 180 + tanks

+3 - There is always another Trigger in the sea to get. Wait until you have a bigger tank if you want a trigger. Just like they should not have gone out hunting Jaws until they actually had a bigger boat (OK maybe not the perfect analogy but you get what I mean...:deadhorse1:)
