Reeferhead's 150DD Build

Might want to think about adding a baffle before the return section Nick. I kick myself everyday for not doing so on mine.

Sump Version 2.0

Trying to direct the flow from the drain across the top of the frag rack. If it isn't enough on its own, I'l cut the frag rack a bit shorter, add a 6045 on the left side under the frag rack, and create a gyre flow in there.

Any thoughts? Please fire away

One thing I forgot to add is a lid where the water comes into the sump. The water level will only be about 2" from the top of the tank, with bubbles breaking on the surface, I'll need one.

Finally moving again

Finally moving again

The sump is done and I got it in the stand. I really hope I don't encounter any issues with it as I would need to drain the whole tank to get it back out. :rolleye1:

Christmas came early at the Reeferhead house

Christmas came early at the Reeferhead house

So I finally got busy again and ordered a bunch of stuff. I'm going to try and get a lot done this weekend. I'm still waiting on a few things but should go wet in about 3-4 weeks.

Skimmer: Went external but I'm going to run it in sump. I wanted a recirculating model for the efficiency

Lumenmax Elite: So I decided I'm not going to alter my hood in any way. Lighting will consist of (at least to begin with) a single MH and two 36 inch VHO actinics. I went with a Lumatech Multiwattage ballast so I can try out 250s and 400s at various levels of overdriverness :crazy1: I got a 250 and 400 watt radium to start out playing with. I'm aware with the low height of my hood that spread from the Lumenmax is going to suck. However, with my aquascaping I plan to keep all the corals in basically a 2’x2’ area. I don’t need to blast the whole tank. If the spotlight effect bothers me I may supplement with some T5s or LEDs

Now this is a proper SLASH Coral Donor Program Tank Light! 6 bulb ATI Sun Power: I haven’t actually decided whether this will stay on the frag tank or if I’ll use it on my current 60 gal when I reset it up as a softy/jawfish system

Everything Else: Levelloc for topoff, BRS Dual Reactor for Carbon and GFO, more Apex odds and ends including a Wireless controller for my Vortechs, 3 Drew’s Dosers for Ca, Alk, and Mg.

I’m still waiting on my Return Pump a Water Blaster 7000. My father-in-law is welding me up some brackets for my auto light lifter. :bounce1:

It’s time to get to work!!!

Awesome, Nick!! Happiness is a countertop full of new reef dry goods:beer:

The best part was I went to the gym last night and got home late so Beth hauled it all inside :D. I wonder if she'll do that when my 270 lbs of sand and 100 lbs of dry rock come in?

santa takes all the good toys to nicks house i see, gonna be sweet setup, gonna have to have a bar b que at nicks to check out new tank soon.

Lovin' the gratuitous dry goods shots!

That sump looks pretty impressive too. What's the center divider made of, ABS? Did you leak test it before installing it inside the stand?

Looks like your about ready to go full-on rock n' roll with the build! Hope to see more updates soon.

The center divider is black acrylic with a texture on the side showing. I wanted it black to avoid light from the frag tank entering the skimmer chamber. I was expecting regular smooth acrylic but it will work just the same. The frag rack BK built for me is made from the same stuff.

Oh and no I have not leak tested it yet. I checked out all the seams and although there are a few more bubbles than I would have liked the thing looks pretty solid. If my pump comes in this week I may get it all pumbed and do a freshwater test of the whole system this weekend.

Man, I'm ready to get home and start rock'n on this thing. I have tommorrow off but if it wasn't for guard duty and fantasy football drafts I'd probably have water in it this weekend.

Football smootball, get on it! :D I would rather look a new cycling tank (while drinking beers of course) than watch some crummy old football any day lol.

Still waiting for the rocker switch to come in so I don't have to keep crossing wires to make the thing go up and down.

So now I just have to take it all apart a properly paint/coat all the wood and metal... but it works so YAYYY!!!

I think I'm going to repaint the wall while I'm at it. I'm thinking something a bit darker.
