Reeferhead's 150DD Build

The holidays really slowed down progress but with everyone coming over on Thursday I got motivated last weekend. I finally went to the Scott AFB woodshop to use their table router and really decent selection of bits in order to match the trim of the stock canopy and stand. I created a panel to hide the inner workings going on behind the stand. Here's a crappy Iphone pic I took this morning of the final product. Please ignore the salt bucket and assorted debris in the background, Beth would appreciate it. She was upset with me when she noticed our laundry in and earlier pic I posted

I moved practically all of the live stock and corals over to the new tank last Sunday. So far everything looks pretty good. My big Deresa clam is gaping a bit but I think it will be alright. I'm going to start breaking and remounting coral tonight. Perhaps someone with decent photography skills can document the final product on Thursday.

For the last few months I've been contemplating on what to do with my current 60 gallon tank. I want to set it up for softies and about 4-6 pearly jawfish. However, the tank itself is a total disaster. Its acrylic and scratched to hell. The angle iron eurobrace frame is rusted terribly. The bottom of the tank has a total of 7 holes in it from and abandoned closed loop system; some of these holes leak. The sump is cracked and I'm noticing increasing worse crazing on the acrylic joints. The tank is a mess. So rather than try to salvage it, I finally decided to replace it.

I drove through the snow storm to a random freight company in STL to pick up the 60 gallon replacement tank. It barely fit in the back seat of my Yaris

any idea where u got them? --- thats why i have a quarantine tank

No idea, but I think I've had them for a while. I'm working on putting together a quarantine system now. It will be linked to receive all of the old water from my water change system.

Wow, your display looks fantastic:thumbsup:

And, gotta love the look of a brand new glass tank:)

Looks great Nick, can't wait to see it in person. I'll try to remember to grab my camera on the way out the door for work that morning but it's usually chaos trying to get the kids together and make it to the bus stop on time. :fun5:

Broke a lot of coral last night but all of my SPS are now mounted. I made a lot of frags and have them spread all over the place in two displays and two frag tanks. My Skimmer went retarted, I almost used two full tubes of Aquamend  I'm still trying to figure out what I want to add to this tank besides SPS and Clams. Almost all of my softies are going back to the new 60 but the LPS are in Limbo at the moment

Where are the Vortech Pumps?

Will flatworm exit or a certain dip get rid of them on the frags, or do you still have to worry about eggs or something hanging on?

There are several different treatments but to my knowledge potassium permanganate is the only one shown to kill the eggs. Honestly I wouldn't be terribly worried about nudis on a non monti or porites frag, the chance of catching a stray egg or nudi is probably pretty low. However, its best to be up front about it and let the recipient decide. I have always dipped everything in the past but still got them. Quarantining is always your best defense

Me either! I'll finally be able to hear the mp40 and see if it'll be too much noise for me. I don't get out on the Ill side much.

I can bring my canon if you forget yours, but I only have the stock lens and the 55-250mm. I can try and take some decent pics, but I don't know if my tank skills are there yet.

Anyone can take better pictures than my color blind @$$ The sad thing is Beth has a really nice camera and lenses but I can't get her interested enough to take pics of the tank.

Twiggy,
I never really noticed how loud the vortechs could be until I started using them on pulse mode on this tank. They're noticable for sure but the octopus return and skimmer pumps are much louder. Super efficient yes but very loud. I'm going to work on a way to sound proof my stand.
