Reeferhead's 150DD Build

I'm thinking of a squamosa myself. Most people do zoas on them but I'm wanting to go a different route. Are you thinking of doing sps?

Yeah, I'm going to try caps, digis, and/or porities first. Though probably not on the big deresa. There isn't a lot of room around it at the moment and it's only going get bigger. Also when it opens and closes it does so with some real force behind it.

I think I'm going to try it with the squamy first. I would also like to get one or two small maximas and let them grow up inside and SPS colony.

put your dottyback last, i've read that they need to be last fish added to tank cause anything else added close to its size will probally be killed. i have a springeri pseodochromis and it tore up new sixline i tried to add, had to buy a big christmas wrasse instead.

Maybe you misunderstood but all the fish I listed are already in the tank. The dottyback is a Pseudochromis fridmani that I've had for over four years. He's always been a model citizen, doesn't bother a thing. I didn't see him much in the old tank but with the open aquascape he comes out all the time in the 150.

love the fish they look real healthy.love the rock in the tank nice clean look great job

Thanks tater

Did the clam move itself in the middle?

Yeah, he did that in my old tank as well, it took him about a month but he acclimated himself and is now in postition to recieve maximum light from the 250 watt radium.

Pretty fancy work on creating an overflow:thumbsup:

Thanks Nook, it didn't take that long but was more work than I was expecting. At one point Beth heard me scream and ran outside thinking I had hurt myself but I was just cussing out my cheapo table router

The mystery wrasse is missing. I checked the floor to no avail just in case but I can't imagine how he would jump out as the hood wrapped up tight. Though, if it did get out some how its possible tha "damn cat" got him. I'm hoping he just wiggled through the overflow and is hiding in the sump some where. He was doing great and eating well, confusing.

That sucks, I hate it when fish just disappear. I spend the next week checking everywhere for it. I have found fish alive in the over flow a couple of months after they disappeared though, so maybe it will turn up.

Do they bury themselves like other wrasse? My green coris stayed in the sand the whole day when it was first put in, and every so often as well.

No, this species doesn't bury. It was in the display for over a month and QT for several weeks before that. It was doing great and eating like a pig. The other wrasse messed with him for the first couple days but their squabbles worked themselves out rather quickly. I was out of town all this week for work and Beth wasn't sure when it first went missing. I'm going to pull all the rock out of my sump tonight.

Tore the sump up and couldn't find it. I think it’s a goner :( Here's where it gets interesting, the caudal fin of my red velvet wrasse is now chewed up. Somebody has been picking on him. I really hope my PBT isn't going homicidal when I'm not around.

Byropsis is still going strong despite 1600 Mg. I've been using magflake to raise it so I ordered some Tech M to see if it makes a difference. Thankfully, still no bryopsis in the display, just in the frag tank.

Perhaps, I'll get some pics up tonight but the Falco Hawk is now in the display and I have two new wrasses in QT, a McCoskers Flasher and a RedHead Solon Fairy. I also think I finally found a pistol shrimp compatible with my Yellow Watchman Goby. It built a den under my big derasa and every once in a while the goby stands guard for him. A new blue maxima clam and peach digitata in QT as well. This is all from LA.

I also received another order of CUC critters from Reef Cleaners. Most of it went in the Jawfish tank but some went to the 150, including two large fighting conchs, turbo snails, peppermint shrimp, tuxedo urchin, hermits, and a bunch of other snails.

The few surviving Acros I still have are growing rapidly. It’s time to start getting more and making this tank look like a reef :D

I bumped the Mg up from 1500 to 1600 using Tech M and after just a couple days the bryopsis is already turnig white and dying. I'm not sure what's in it that makes the difference but that stuff really does work.

I have read a few articles by Randy-holmes farley, and he states its some sort of impurity in the Tech M that kills it off. I have a bit of bryopsis on a frag of mine. I dipped it with Coral RX and it didn't kill it off so I am watching it like a hawk.

I've always wondered if it had to do with specific concentrations of Mg-chloride and Mg-sulfate. I used a combination of the 2 to bring my Mg up and it killed off the bryopsis.

Tech-M has both:
Contents: deionized water containing the following elements (as ions): magnesium, chlorine, sulfur, calcium, potassium, bromine, strontium, boron, fluorine, lithium, rubidium, iodine, iron, molybdenum, zinc, nickel, copper, manganese, vanadium, cesium, cobalt, tungsten, selenium, and chromium.

Copper and lithium?! I guess if it doesn't kill it, it will be happy!

I've suspected the same thing and have use the same combo to beat it before but never as fast as this tech m stuff. Mgcl alone takes a lot, like 1800-2000 ppm a lot.

Well, it figures, the Water Blaster 5000 pump I've been speaking so highly of failed on me during the weekend. Of course it had to do it while I was in Dallas. It's very strange, I've had pumps with problems restarting before I've never had a pump just stop on its own mid stream like this one did. From what I can decipher my tank was probably without a main pump for about 1.5 days. So far no losses as the Vortechs were still going and the temp of the house was pretty good.

I unplugged and replugged to no avail but one little turn of the impeller and it restarted with no problem. I have a backup of the same pump just for these circumstances which I'm using now. The pump has a 2 year warrantee, so I should be getting a replacement. I've yet to see a bad review of these pumps but I guess that’s what I deserve for buying something so critical but which has only been out on the market for a couple years. I hope this is just an isolated issue.

maybe look harder a lot of impeller problems with them (mushrooming of the impellers) (i have an extra atb flow star if you need to borrow something)

What do you mean by mushrooming? Can you link me to any info on that issue?

Thanks for the offer but I'm on a back up now

The two new wrasses came out of QT last night and into breeder boxes to allow them and the other fish to become acclimated to each other. This is a tip I picked up from the Reef Fishes board to minimize initial aggression, particularly when keeping multiple wrasses together. In the end I'll likely have ten or more. They'll likely come out in a couple days and I'll get some decent pics of the fish themselves.

The bryopsis is pretty much toast now. I also added to filter sock to the drain and I'm enjoying the clearer water. With three feet of depth any amount of particulates really shows.
