True, but since you’re so anti-controller-ish anyway the Radions would be wasted on you. :lol: no offense. You could get the same PAR out of much more reasonably priced fixtures, if you decided to go that route. Plus, don't forget the used value of the lights you currently have. I'm sure it would all fetch a pretty penny. Though, the longer you wait, the less folks will want them ;)

Those are amazing numbers BTW... lighting alone for 7 years... sheesh, you really do love this hobby!

That's why I just bought one of the Apollo units for now.wanted too see if I would like them before I bought 3 more.I put my sps frags under the led to see how they would respond if all goes well I'm off to led town lol.the reason for wanting to was well first I went to chads house and was blown away by his.and also buld changes hut heat was the biggest factor.the radions are very cool just too rich for me.I would have needed probably 8 of them with the Apollo hopefully only 4 time will tell

They're about the same wattage. Do you really think the Apollo puts out double the light?
 
Too be honest nick I don't know.I do know they are very bright so far I'm impressed call Joe at Apollo he could tell you more of the technical side than I could he's pretty cool
 
I'll do some digging. I know farmer is pretty happy with his. I'd have to sacrifice all that funky spectrum control though...

I would have to say I like my LED's dimmable. Kinda cool watching it slowing go up and down. Another cool feature, more like something that I'll never use and probably 99% of all hobbyists is you can simulate a thunderstorm in your tank.

You just now figuring this out:D I was a hardcore SPS nut at my old house. Had 58g and 120g tanks packed with SPS. Moved into this house with the walkout basement 8 years ago with the intention of starting a large tank, now, 4 years later I have 1200 gallons or so:lol:

The LED's look interesting, but I'm not ready to jump yet. And, I did the math.
 
I am not against controllers so much, I just like the dependability of industrial timers. I thought the storm modes on the Radion's and Vortech's were pretty cool though. Griss had a controller about 10 years ago that turned off bulbs and powerheads to stimulate cloud cover and storms. One thing about a system the size of mine is that nothing is cheap and I really like to think things out before jumping.
 
I bought a melenuras wrasse from Velko friday; it went into QT. So, out of QT and into the display came the Lubbock's wrasse I got from MS about a month ago and the Klein's butteryfly I got from Seascape about 2 weeks ago.

The PBT showed his dominance and pestered the Kleins but it was eating well and the issues appear to be worked out. However, this morning, I found the Klein's covered in ick. The fish is still eating and seems fine otherwise but just to be safe I pulled the both the butterfly and the lubbuck's back out and into QT.

I think I'm going to try and hypo all three fish together. 2 days was not long enough for the ick trophonts to drop off so, I'm running with the idea that my display is actually ick free. However, I admit its quite likely the display has always had ick. Who knows, I might have been better off just leaving the fish in the display but I'm thinking the strategy might help mitigate things particularly if I misdiagnosed and its not ick.

ick sucks :(
 
I have just came to accept that my tank has Ick. I now feed medicated food for weeks after I add new fish and hope for it to pass. Also decided Powder Blue Tangs are not meant to be in my tank.
 
Yeah, I think I need to accept that fact as well. However, my PBT has never shown any symtoms and they're one of the most ick prone fish out there. So, here's to hoping the display is still ick free :rolleyes: If nothing else the hypo treatment will help the butterfly recover quicker. I'm almost positive its ick and not velvet but velvet scares the hell out of me so better safe than sorry.
 
The Klein's is not recovering and now shows many of the symptoms of velvet. I'm not positive but it doesn't look good. It could still be a bad case of ick. The two wrasses in QT with the butterfly are no longer coming out to eat either. I really hope what ever it is, it didn't pass into the display during the two days the Klein's was in there. I guess I'll find out soon enough. :( I'm really confused now because a two week QT should have allowed the symptoms of velvet to manifest. I know copper can mask the symptoms of velvet but I don't run it in my QT tank. Perhaps, it just took a while present itself after the LFS's copper treatment.

I feel your pain Nick. I almost lost my entire tank to what some thought was velvet but I think ended up being bacterial. I lost a lavender tang, blue eye kole tang, Achilles tang, and almost lost my vlamingi, yellow eye kole, and magnificent foxface. When I sent a picture of my vlamingi to a wholesaler his recommendation was to drain my entire tank and bleach it. I had more in coral than fish so i just continued aggressive feeding frozen only with kannaplex, metronidizole, and added ozone along with uv. It was seriously the worst two months of my life. I still do not know what was the cause. I had dwayne look at the tank and he was pretty sure it was velvet as well. With only losing three fish if it was I put up one help of a fight I guess. I wish u luck.

I've been in this hobby since I was 12 years old and never experienced this disease. Now twice in less than 6 months in two different tanks... FML
 
Sorry to hear that, The melarnus I got from Velko at PN has been great, once it starts feeling better you are gonna love that fish!
 
Looks like you have some work to do now. I'm going to start a QT tank soon for all future additions.
