ReefJ's Reef Tank Build

sweet looking stuff! hey did you put ball valves after the sqwd, bc sometimes the sqwd clog and you have to clean them and if you only have a ball valve after the pump, you can't just take off the sqwd.

Johnny,

I decided to do something different here. I put a tee coming off the discharge side of the closed-loop pump and installed an elbow and another ball valve with a barbed fitting. Basically whenever I want to drain the suction or discharge side of the closed loop I just open the respective side's valve on the pump that I want to drain and open the drain line coming off the tee from the pump discharge. If you look at the pic you can see what I'm talking about.

Should work out well when I want to drain the system.

I've got foam on mine with 3x400mh's and it's been over a year and no notice of deterioration. Also, it gets covered with coralline, so I don't know how the light would get to it.

Cool. Good to know. Did you cover your foam with an epoxy of some type, or did you just do the foam by itself?

I didnt use epoxy with mine, although it has only been up a month or so.
But i can already see coralline popping up all over the foam. Your gonna love it when you have water in!

I'm going to ask my buddy to bring his DSLR when he comes down for Thanksgiving to take some better pictures. The color came out really blue with my sony camera. Hopefully the tank will look better with his cam.

So after nearly a month, here are some updated pics of my tank. I have about 45 species of SPS corals, an orange open brain coral and a nice frogspawn. I can't wait till all the SPS grow up!

Let me know what you guys think!
