Reefkeeper II or Aquacontroller Jr.???

Manny, Octopus starts at 300$ PLUS you have to buy every little thing for it, it ends up coming to over 1000$ or alot more, Vs. the 270$+42$ for a ph probe (it comes with temperature probe (for RK2)). For most of us, the features that AquaController Jr provide as well as the Reef Keeper2, its basically enough. Most of us already have Milwaukee pH/orp controllers, so why sell those and get a octopus and pay almost 4-5 times what a reef keeper2 would cost with our current equipment?

I just lost power for about 2 hrs now, this is sad, we haven't even gotten the hurricane yet! my only issue with having to purchase the aquanotes ($150 extra) to have the computer email me would be that if the lights go the computer goes too! and the modem and the router and .........The hot water!!! I should have waited for the power to come back on to take a shower!
in any case my point is that when the power goes (in my case at least) nothing else works

What? Power out in allmighty Weston? LOL Is that payback when Weston was back a day after Wilma and we Easterners had to suffer for 2 to 3 weeks? Just kidding, hope everything is allright for you. Cold showers suck, I know all about it, not to mention I have well water and when the power goes, so does the water :(

Not sure if you know this yet, but the RK2 is releasing firmware updates in mid August and a datalogging firmware in September. You also have PM.

Now, that sounds even better, is it just a matter of downloading a firmware upgrade?

Allmighty weston LOL, I know what you mean but it seems that the problem was bigger than just Weston, when I called FPL there were approx 2500 peopl w/o power. For what i understan the outage reach as far south as Pembroke Pines

I believe so, I was checking out the website.

mike yes i understend that but how much is the controler 278+ chiping like 289 the reef keeper is $270.00+280=550

ReefKeeper 2 - $270.00
(pH Probe seperate)

ok add ph probe another 80 to 100 lets say 100+550=650.00

and on and on oooooooooooon remenber this it does not come with ebery ting how about adding ozone orp all that is not standar is + + + + + + so if you look at it this way you will end up pay more because you will have to sale your comilwakee to buy more addons for the reef keeper

not to intrude on your club forum - but a few things that makes the Jr different from the RK2 (I say different, as, personally I like these additional user options given by the Jr - , but others may like to keep things more simple)

The sunrise/sunset times can be set to mimic the actual times of sunrise/sunset of the reefs in say, the solomon islands - so it will change daily throughout the year.

It also includes a special moonlight function for use w/ a incandescent light bulb - it supplies the bulb with variying wattages to directly mimic moon cycles.

I also appreciate the open-ended programming language offered- this may be an option that makes some wary of the Jr, as it is not as user-friendly, but it does mean that you can do just about anything you would like when it comes to timeing, temperature, pH controlling (any reading can function to control another - not necessarily bad or good; I only like to monitor to keep things as simple as possible, but the controlling ability is possible)

And just one added note - you won't need a dedicated computer, the Jr stores information, so if/when you want to retrieve it, you can use your laptop computer (another user preference depending on if you have a laptop)

I'll escourt myself back to the midwest now :D

I don't even know why I will continue with this as the situation I am going through. But the Reefkeeper2 is 270+42 for the ph prob, shipping is 10$, thats 342$ If you already have a ph/orp controller like most of us do, you can run those seperate for a calcium reactor and run the RK2's ph monitor to monitor the tanks ph. so together with the milwaukee its about 450$ compared to $1000 or more, don't know where your getting your 650$ figure, maaybe your htinking of something else?

read man for some one who is begining no controler no noting now if it happent like me i was using the milwakee and rader use the octopus for everyting is doble the spences
what i am trying to say is no mater what you buy it will cost $$$$ you get one par then the other it will add on

Yes. Here is what the new firmware includes:

Firmware Update

There has been a lot of interest in what our next firmware release will include and when it will be released. We wanted to let all of you know that we will be releasing the following features in mid August:

- Programmable delay for skimmer/sump when leaving standby

- Adding temperature cutoff to the Multi-timers

- Seperate day-mode and night-mode brightness setting

- Shifted temp and pH readouts left one position to optimized LCD realestate and improved readability of screen

We will also follow that realease with a data logging feature in September. We are working on the details of that and will update this page when we have more to share.

datalogging someone said???! I'm in for RK2 fo sho!

Looks like the competition is creeping up quickly. Soon enough the prices will drop like flies.

To throw my 2 cents in. I just got the AC3 from Neptune. I got it from Marine Depot $630 all together. I have PH ORP TEMP probes. It has built in webserver that can be remote accesed and I can control everything and program it from away from home. It does email alerts without theAquanotes. I do use Aquanotes lite that is free to log Tank Data. It Cycles my lights to go with the season and I use it to alternate my Maxi Jet 1200's back and forth. It contols 2 float valves 1 for tank and another for Skimmer cup to shut pump when full. It regulates the temp based on season changes as well. I am sure you are aware of all the things it can do but I wanted to say I am exremely happy with the unit and it to me is worth every cent. I would go up from the ACJR to even the AC2 or AC3 just to get the embedded webserver.

Any of us looking to do a group buy on the RK2? I am thinking about purchasing the RK2 with the expansion socket. If we can get 4 or 5, maybe we can get a better price.
