ReefKeeper vs Apex

The Apex app for the Tablet is the same one available for the phone. (There's an iphone version as well I believe).

Without ethernet at the fish tank, you could get a real cheapo wireless bridge. They sell on amazon for as low as $10.

Would I like the Apex without the App. I certainly wouldn't like it as much, since I would only be able to remotely tap into the controller with a lap top. That being said, I would still go for the Apex over the RK if this were the case. The Reef Angel Controller would be quite a bit closer in terms of how I rank the products though if no Iphone/Android App existed.

I really like not having to touch the controller itself to trigger a feed mode, keep the lights on, turn them off early (fish acclimating), bring up graphs, etc. There's been multiple times I've had parties or late gatherings at the house where I wanted to keep the lights on later while people were at the house. I took care of it right from my phone while people were at the house, instead of having to fumble around with the fish tank while company was already present.

The Vortech control, Net Connectivity in the base unit, and Customer Service was the major reasons I personally went with the Apex. I travel a lot for business, so having the ability to tap into, and program/control, the tank from virtually any internet accessible device was huge.

What about reef angle any reviews on that one? I see apex and reeaf keeper. Any info on reefangle? And what company is DA?

honestly i have no news on reefangle. DA is Digital Aquatics that makes ReefKeeper, Neptune is the company that makes Apex.

Also i ordered my Apex aquacontroller system friday. should have it in few days, i am going to set RKE and APEX side by side and see which one works out better and to keep the thread alive i will update my experiences on regular basis as they occur.

Update:
i got my Apex in today. hooked it up and played around with it.
just in 3 hrs i am already beating myself for not buying Apex years ago. i will gradually dump the RKE.

Any "experiences" to update us on?

updates as of now: been using both units side by side on my 300gal system.
as follows:
RKE is a bit easier to me to use Apex is bit more advanced unit.
overall looks and design and sturdiness goes to Apex.
Programming to me RKE is easier while Apex is not rocket science either but seems a little more advanced than RKE.
RKE net is more for observing and not much programming. most programming is done on headunit or u can do stuff by physically pluging into it via MyReef. while Apex can be 100% programmed by net in ur home or anywhere in the world as long as ur connected.
RKE probes seems to be built better looking but seems to drift alot over time. i have been through several ph probes and same drifting issues. salinity probe is a joke. infact SL-1 and salinity proble are on recall for replacement with newer units as they become available. Apex on the other hand ph probe has not drifted since i got it. dont have a salinity probe on apex so cant comment there.
After a short time of use/owning Apex i am definately convinced that Apex is overall a much better buy over RKE but i still have not fully transitioned over to Apex yet.

ok so today i had to call Neptune Support for how to program my cal reactor to be on when ph inside the reactor is higher than 6.8 and stop when less than 6.5. also restricting the whole setup to be only on between 8am to 8pm.
Paul answered the call on 2nd bell. Very professional. clarified my question twice understood it correctly and asnwered and helped me very well.
So my vote is all for Apex from now on.
thanks Neptune

Their customer service is amazing. I had an issue where my seasonal time data got corrupted. Within minutes they accessed the unit online, rebooted my device, and the data was corrected, all while I was sitting and staring at my tank. Too cool.

can someone explain the seasonal data?,is it just something to work from or can you set things to those numbers automatically?

i am very new to Apex myself but yes i read it somewhere in a manual or website some where that those numbers are there so it can be used with lighting and wave making schedules.

The table provides values for Sunrise and Sunset to simulate the varying hours of light over the course of a year. You can adjust these times as necessary with an offset if you want, or just use them to turn on/off your lights according to the table. So instead of using an "If Time 07:00 to 18:30 Then ON" statement, you can use "If Sun 000/000 Then ON" and it will adjust according to the table values.

It also has Moon rise/set times ("If Moon 000/000 Then ON") as well that automatically adjust with the various Intensity values to mimic the phases of the moon. Intensity settings are only usable with the LSM module.

In addition the seasonal temperature RT table sets the heater's temperature ("If Temp < RT Then ON"), gradually cooling and heating the aquarium based on average water temperatures based on the first day of the month throughout the year.

what is the major diff between the reg apex and the apex lte

The regular Apex has 4 dimmable ports and an ORP port that can also be used as a second pH port. Those features can be added later, but they are a good deal and are all locted on the base module so it takes up less space. Everything else is identical.

This poll really needed an option for "other."
I'm one of the handful of RA owners but I considered both the Apex Jr and the RKL before I bought my RA. It didn't take long to rule out the RKL, it just couldn't do what I need, and I hadn't even heard about the poor CS at that time. It was harder to decide between the Apex Jr (web now and display when funds allow) and the RA (display now, web soon) but the initial price of the RA, for what's included, won out in the end.

I personally went with the apex. I have not set it up yet but I am confident that I made a good decision for me.

Just got my apex setup. This thing is well forth the extra $$$ over reefkeeper. I have very little networking called up apex and paul had it setup in less then 10 min and was super easy to code the outlets. Great customer service and great product. Was worth every penny
