Reeflo/Sequence Skimmer Club

Well, i'm running mine a little wetter than reefguy above.

This is about 2 days worth. Total skimmate production of just about 5 cups. Very happy with this skimmer, but still would really like to be getting the 2500+lph air, but can't seem to track down the info on how that number was achieved.

My RF has been running for two weeks this coming Saturday. I emptied the cup this past Sunday, so the skimmate in the picture amounts to four days worth. Since we have three pictures close together with different skimmate characteristics, I would be interested in knowing how each of you have the skimmer adjusted. I am running the skimmer wide open with no restriction of the water flow through it. I use a Quiet One 2200 rated at 581 gph at 0 head to pump into the skimmer out of the sump. The venturi is also running wide open for maximum air input.

ddevlin,

My pump makes a little noise if the venturi valve is not completly open. I placed a (not sure what to call this so here is a long description :) ) thin non-skid open celled foam type tool box liner pad under the skimmer. When the venturi is open, the pump is very quiet although it does have a slight hum.

If you put it in a cup, the rule is you have to drink it and post pictures.

kingsland,
I'm using the same feed pump as you and running it wide open as well. I think the three pictures show that you can run it dry/wet/and in between. :)

Kingsland,

I put a mousepad under the pump and it made no diference. Mike has been helping me along with this and told me a couple of things to look for to possible troubleshoot the noise. They didn't work. Kindly enough he will be shipping me one of his personal pumps so I will be able to send mine to Reeflo and still be able to skim.

Thanks Mike!

kingsland, I run my air wide open. A mag 5 feeds the skimmer, wide open. I open the wedge valve all the way and let it run until a foam head starts to form. I then close the wedge until that head is just below the top of the riser. Make sense?

Yes, it makes sense. I was a bit worried by the reports of the skimmer overflowing so I didn't want to make too many adjustments before it was broken in and I had a feel for how it was going to operate. Its a great skimmer and I am very pleased with it.

the reason why mine isnt as wet is because it was in the last few days of break in. Tonight was day 17 of the skimmer and I have started making a little adjustment. I did not dare touch the wedge pipe until after the 14 day waiting period (and even then I waited a few extra days). So the skimmate became less and less wet and collected on the neck. I turned the wedge up a little tonight and am going to put it back down before I go to bed. Slowly but surely get it tuned up.....

I will post some pics tonight of my upgraded cup.

On another note, I think my early overflow issues were due to me restricting the exit pipe to much. After hearing you guys running this thing wide open with mag 5s. I was over half closed with my mag 7 (after head pressure it was near 450gph). After opening the valve a bit and letting the foam build itself up I have not had any additional issues.

My water level is between the bottom of the screws and the flange when the dart is running with the air valve closed. I never had an overflow with the old cup and it skimmed wet.

Old pics.

Everyone is doing it....come on

I am trying. Waiting for Marco rocks to become avail. My reeflo is sitting looking sad. It wants some action:mad: . I did run it with fresh water all last weekend, while checking the system for leaks. I swear this thing looked so impressive with fresh water, I thought I was going to get some skim from my city water:lol: .
