As you know - The factory hole turns 90 degrees toward the needle wheel and is impossible to clean thoroughly without disassembly. With the new hole I just ream it out with a long drill bit straight down the air valve. Yes, there are now 2 holes in the fitting, but it's only going to pull as much air as the air valve will allow.

Modify at your own risk!!!

(It works great for me!)

What size drill bit did you use?

Yes, I took the needle wheel off of my standard Dart and installed it on the Gold pump.

The Dart Gold is available in a needle wheel version...it's called an "Orca Gold" as seen here on Zenman's 250

.

Where can buy these pumps?
Did some googling, found many sequence modles but no Orca Gold

Still, there’s no mention of the Orca, but I do see an option for the needle wheel, guess if you choose that it will come as the Orca.
These pumps are expensive but very energy efficient.
Thanks for the link

I was the lucky one who bought James77 Skimmer. It will be here on Monday. Thanks again Jim.

Now I just need my tank delivered.

Just after 2 days I was getting some skimming hapening!! Wow put the water in on Monday, did the plumbing on Wednesday, put the CC on Thurday and Friday the skimmer was skimming. That is pretty fast, I would imagine what kind of skimming that skimmer does on a established tank?

Again thanks mike!

If u want to see the cup first hand on saturday before or after the meeting let me know as i am less than 10mins from Sue.

Need advice:

I am putting a new 150g SPS system. Total system will be about 250gal. The system is 90% there, all I need now is a skimmer and calcium reactor. I have about $1400 set aside to complete things.

I have decided on the Sequence skimmer. Now here is my dilemma, by going with the 200, I would have enough left over to buy a Ca reactor and be done. Or, should I bite the bullet and go with the 250 and dose 2 part for another 6-12mos? In otherwords, is the 200 sufficient?

I would say moderately. Not planning to push the envelope but want to have enough to keep my wife interested. She complains the "sticks" don't do anything.

Sounds familiar...i like SPS and she likes softies...thats why i have a mixed tank!

Even though my system is just pushing 300gals, i went with the 250. Wasnt really to happy with the skim til i upgraded the cup. NOW i think its a powerhouse skimmer. I have a 11 fish, 2 are large, 3 medium and the rest are small. Good thing about the going with the 250 is i can upgrade my system and wont have to buy a new skimmer. May down the road upgrade the dart to the gold, but the cup upgrade was noticeable right away!

I completely forgot about the cup upgrade which would push the total cost to $1500. I do like the tank upgrade capability though. Hmmm, tough decision.

Serpentman

I would go with the 200 and get a CA reactor as well. You are just getting this tank, it will be a few years if at all you decide to go larger.

I'm in a similar situation, I have a new tank being built, its around 160 gallons with sump will be another 50-70 gallons. I was thinking of going with the 250 so I didnt have to upgrade down the road but the more I thought about it, it may be another 3-4 years before I decide to go bigger. I would rather have both a skimmer and CA reactor versus dosing for 12 months.

Thank wfgworks, I guess I needed to be talked off the ledge. Its definitely going to be a while until I take the next step. Plus, a lot can change in 3 years. It wasn't long ago that the monster 6' skimmers were the "in" thing.

if you ask me alot can change in 3 month, I started with almost no limit (about 20 000$ in mind) to my company loosing half it's sale in 1 1/2 month and laying off employees and cutting my salary..... So yes alot can change in very little time, sometime for the better and sometime for the worst. Anyways enough sad story, give mike@reefspecialty a call he will help you, he is a great person!

Is anybody else running ozone on their skimmer? If so are you using the mod to the air silencer? If another way, please describe or pics. Are you worried about the ozone degrading the skimmer?

I just bought a 300mg/hr ozone generator and plan to do the air silencer mod. Any tips would be great.

somwhere around oktober , there was mention in this thread of a larger model, to be shown at MACNA. But the only new model that came out was the smaller 200. Is there still a larger model to be released ?
