Reefpack 250 problem

Bought the reefpack 250 as per your suggestion. and it works great! linky

However, is it normal for one of the magnets to continuously rust and leave stains on the glass? (top interior magnet on the 6004)

I dunno if I kept the receipt, is there an RMA process that can be started through tunze or do I go back to my LFS where I bought it?

Thanks!!

The magnets are ferrite, this is the same material that impellers are made of, it is a ceramic and it cannot rust. The majority of these issues are due to bits of iron, even iron based phosphate removers binding to the magnet. For example you were cleaning the filter at a kitchen counter and picked up some steel wool dust or staple. I would first clean it very well and be sure this is not the culprit.

I don't keep staples on the kitchen counter... :wildone:

But I do have a steel sink, and I do fill my reactors with GFO and clean everything all at once. So there's the culprit!

Thanks!

I have had it happen to me, someone unstaples a letter at the kitchen table and it sticks to the magnet. If the rust easily wipes off with a scrubber pad, I would assume it is just GFO or something iron stuck to the magnets and not more.
