Patent law is very tricky. Anyone can file for one, but will it hold up is another question. Patent's are issued without out being fully investigated.Well on the Willam's website are clear informations:

How somebody can patent his idea then...???
By the way similar overflow systems I've seen looooong time ago in Europe, the only difference these pipes was installed in corner overflows not external but who cares...
Only my 2 cents...

Can Synergy Reefs use a well date documented beananimal solution to gain profits? They sure can. If they patent their Ghost Overflow are the safe from a suit? The answer is very simple and complex at the same time.
In the little research I have done, I would hope that William sends a letter to Synergy. After that get and attorney and discuss. I am sure that Synergy is not a big profitable company and can pretty much bet that if they are registered, the are more than likely a sole proprietorship.
Apple does not care how Samsung builds a smartphone, but if they intend on using Apples ideas or technology, Samsung had better pay royalties or they will see them in court!
Yes, I'm well aware. My point is that it is a Reef Savvy product.
Brandon
Does anyone know what BeanAnimal has patents on?
Also, this is a ReefSavvy product, not Synergy Reefs.
Brandon
Brandon, in the USA, it's the first to invent, not first to patent. The parties involved would be inventor vs synergy but not limited to synergy but anyone who profits from it.
I did not have the time today to look up business licenses for any of the two companies, but does anyone know if they are registered in their respective states? Or are they operating and not reporting their income?
I don't really care and I won't post anymore about this, but it is something for all parties to think about because tax evasion is a crime.
The beananimal is the technology to the ghost overflow box. Again as I said patent law is complicated.I couldn't care less about who did what first. You're assumption of my direction is wrong. My point is that there's nothing on the Ghost overflow that BeanAnimal has done, unless he patented the magnetic weir cover. I'm doubting he did, but that's why I asked.
I find it strange you bring this up. I feel very confident both companies are registered, it would be dumb to not register and based on these products I'm seeing, I just don't think they'd do that. Could be completely wrong, though.

Think of how Apple sued Samsung. It was not that samsung used Apple's screen, it's that Samsung used Apple's technology. Bad example, but maybe it will help draw a picture.
Strange I bring it up? I have no motive I don't care if its a hobby or a business, I just posed a question. Your stance makes me think you might have ties to either of the two named entities. Rest assured I don't want to offend you or their business. It's their business and none of mine.
I have bigger fish to tend to.
It's all clear now. Cheers.Yes, I've known Rick at Synergy for several years now.
Brandon, Are you asking because you need legal counsel? So how about that technology at question?
As I stated a few times, patent law is complicated. It would be nice for you to clarify that point. As-is, it makes no sense.
