Reefstock March 8th at the Curtis Hotel

I didn't go, however I find it rude that everyone was so disappointed about the food situation. I don't even think you should have to provide food. Set up a cheap vender (pizza, hotdogs, salads, etc.) Let everyone buy some cheap, crappy food themselves. If you want to get crazy, buy a bunch of donuts and coffee. I've been to the last 2 MACNA's and there isn't free food unless you pay the premium price. I'd go if there wasn't any free food. Your going to this to learn (which I agree with the people who put this on), this wasn't a frag swap. It was for knowledge and listening to speakers. I will definitely go next year....and hell, I'll bring my own lunch!!!

I think Chris needs to grow up a little also. Come on, this is ridiculous. I've never had a problem with any other club. Let the bad blood go bro.

I'm sorry, I haven't read every post in this thread but I find it amazing that some (NOT ALL) of the SCMAS and DARC members claim that they have no reason to team up with RMRC in hopes of making events any better, and yet where do they do the majority of their advertising online? Answer: The RMRC boards. Yea yea... I know you send out flyers and what not, but are you asking those that came about the event and how to make it better via flyers or is it right here on this board?

It is too bad some people think that the philosophy of RMRC in the past was that they determined themselves to be the MAIN club. Well, like it or not RMRC had some massive numbers showing up to meetings and we had to make some drastic changes to accomidate meetings and keep up the overall health of the club over the long term. Now those at the other clubs did not agree with a minimal membership fee and left, fair enough.

However they did not leave, as they continued to use RMRC resources to advertise their events claiming at the same time to heck with RMRC! I guess that is another difference in "club philosophy."

Would I like to see clubs get together and put on big events, absolutely. I just remember that DARC always proudly proclaiming that they wanted nothing to do with bringing in big speakers or charging for events, again another philosophy difference, but it seems as though some claim to remain the same in their philosophy while reality is adapting accordingly ;)

I am just so sick of this bashing RMRC at the same time using them. Do I want RMRC to be invited to your respective events, sure, and you to RMRC's of course; but don't claim there is no need for RMRC with the current way some of your members seem to operate.

It also seems that the current RMRC board is doing wonderfully with being open, cooperative, and willing to colaborate. No doubt this was not the case of the RMRC stance a few years ago, but thank goodness Christina, Larry and the others have gotten over that; they speak for the RMRC now, I suggest you address this current RMRC club rather than the one that existed years ago that some of you still seem to despise.

Cheers,

Thats not very nice of you to say to me, I don't think I've taken a personal shot at anyone here, I hate these type of discussions and you guys are all making me out to be the bad guy.
I'm done responding to anything in the RMRC forum.
Enjoy

Brandon & Mike,

I can see that Christina and Larry are trying to point out that getting the clubs together may work. Unfortunately everything they have done was wiped out by your last statements. If there is any hope you must realize that civility is a must.

As a new person attending the event, I don't care about the politics between the clubs at all, but it has bothered me that the people who planned this event and their supporters are offended by the fact that people expected their admission price to includ food. I believe the flier advertised “@1. Free Lunch Buffet catered by the Corner Office restaurant & martini bar.” The ReefStock staff are somehow surprised that paying customers were disappointed and did not hang around from 11 am to 7 pm with nothing to eat and nothing to do every other hour. People can be pretty accomodating if they see the staff working toward a solution to the problem. I find it rude that no attempt at all was made to bring in more food or refund people's money. These same clubs are now bashing RMRC for setting up policies for financial accountability when there is no mention of what they did with my $10 admission fee. There were obviously over a hundred more of us who paid admission than they expected, and they apparantly pocketed that extra money instead of buying more food for us. I see this as a legitimate gripe of poor customer service. If the flier had not promised "free lunch buffet" than I have no right to expect food, but if they promise, accept my money, and don't deliver, I have a problem with it.

WHY CANT WE ALL JUST GET ALONG!!!! OK REEFSTOCK had alot of people & the people throwing the event excluding SCMAS has never thrown such an event. SCMAS had never thrown one in Denver so they didn't know what to expect either since RMRC just had an event. You can give criticism but don't bash & from here on out lets leave RMRC out of the picture due to the fact that we didn't throw the event. I say lets leave to constructive criticism not bashing. if you have an issue pm freddie40 or reefkoi or coralite & I'm sure they will figure something out. Since this is the RMRC forum lets try to keep it civil. I don't want to see it locked again.

400 half sandwiches is a friggin lot of food ;) I agree the process needed some help, but 400 half sandwiches is enough to feed 200 people at least.

Why do you expect a club your not a member of to be transperant to you with how the money was spent on the event?

It's pretty obvious as a true outsider your clubs aren't on the best of terms with each other. IMO that stinks. We have three clubs in our area and we all work closely together as not to step on each others toes, even sharing speaker costs at times. We work with clubs not in our arae as well, again, sharing speaker costs as well as adding to the size of our frag swaps.

See even an outsider notices-as you see our threads are monitered by everybody. See in Gresham's post they work together. This kind of stuff is why all of the oldtimers wont even come on here anymore, to much drama & everybody's an expert.

I meant what I said about wanting to attend next year - too bad I missed this one. Thanks SCMAS for taking the bull by the horns and putting on a great event. I'm sure a lot of you spent some late nights getting things together. If you review the posts above, most people were very pleased with everything (except for the badges of course (wardrobe malfuntion? :))). I'm sure there were 10 happy persons for each person who actually chimed in to say so. Best of luck on your next event!

I will be the first to extend the olive branch and invite RMRC to out frag swap on April 26th. Please keep in mind that there is not charge of any kind and people will be able to trade frags and any fish related equipment at the event. DARC will have a donation cup to help raise funds, but it is up to you to donate.

Dave

Wait... let me get this straight. An official CLUB event, that is all about promoting the hobby, and friendship with no "mandatory" contribution to the sponsoring body? What a concept! A reef club just getting together, with no drama to promote sharing and swapping the bounty that we raise in our little glass- or acrylic boxes! That kinda reminds me why I got involved in RMRC in the beginning.

Examples??

I guess I am a bit confused... I have not been an active member in any club for nearly two years, and you are telling me that everything the RMRC board has done was wiped out by my last statements?
I don't mind civility, but at this point I am more after common sense.

I am not speaking for RMRC, or anyone other than myself, just stating what I have observed over the last few years.

Thanks Dave,
I just may be able to make this one finally. Now if Jon would sell me his bubble coral (if he still has it) ..... ;)
