The skimmer iam running is a super skimmer its made by corallife. Its rated for 125 gallons not the best skimmer out there but it will do.

I run corallife also, It does the job but they seem to have somewhat of a timely breakin period.

I had the coralife SS 225 and was able to get it tuned in pretty well. Do a search of the coralife SS mods and you can probably get a lot more efficiency out of it.

Ok yea sometimes they stop producing the bubbles for a little and then they start back up. Steveoutlaw i will definitely check it out.

Adjust your pump and make sure there is nothing blocking the air Intake silencer. Try blowing out any water that might be trapped in the air intake line, that will deffinetly cause blocked air not to get through.

Comparing the Coralife Super Skimmer to a Euroreef is like apples and oranges. And I use Euro-reef because it is a quality-made skimmer with a good reputation. I've been running this skimmer for almost 3 years.

Ok guys i have another question for you. I want to the fish store this weekend and i want to get the sand and cheato for my tank. When should i add the cheato to the tank should i wait or should i add it after the sand settles?

i dont think it matters if you wait till the sand settles or not, but with no light over your fuge, it would be ill advised to add your cheato....
being used for nutrient export, your cheato may not be neccesary at this point as there is no real life in the tank at this time. with no waste being produced, the cheato is of not of use for its underlined factor. at best, you will be able to esablish a small population of copepods and amphipods. but, with no real waste in the system, the population may not flourish as desired.
it wouldnt hurt to wait on the cheato untill your ready for a clean up crew

OK thanks Chrismunn. So when i hopefully go to the fishstore this weekend i will just get the sand for the tank. As soon as i get the CUC then i will add the cheato. I also think i am going to pick up another heater because my tank is currently at 74-76 and i want to go up a little more.

Keep in mind that when you add lights that the temp will go up. I'm not sure what heater you have but my tank before lighting was staying rather warm even before the lighting addition. You might could save some money.

OK well right now i have a little 20g heater in the basement heating the water down there and in the main tank i have a 300w heater. When i get my light how much do you think the water will go up.

PArt of the equation for the heat / light questions is what type of canopy (if any) will be used on the tank. Right now you have an open top, right? Will the light be sitting on legs atop an open tank? Does the fixture have fans? It's only T5 correct? If all of this is true, you may see very little temperature rise from the lights.

How are the water parameters coming along? Once you add the remaining sand this weekend, I think it may well be time to acclimate those Perculas into the display. The fish don't need any additional light. You should also look at getting a little CF clamp on light to put over your refugium. Pick up an inexpensive one at the hardware store, get a timer while you're there. That way, when you get your refugium plants, you will be ready.

OK there will be no canopy on the tank. The light that i am getting has fans. Its a t5. It will be sitting on legs over the tank. The water parameters i haven't tested from last time i did them maybe today i will. I have a light already on the fuge. The light came from my old 20g freshwater tank.

I do believe that if the water tests good today, you should go ahead and acclimate the percs into the display.

Why not?

I dont want to add them into the display yet. One because my temperature is at 74-76 degrees sometimes goes down to 73. Second i think they will be more comfortable with the light in there. But if my temps where right then i would definitely accumulate them.

Are your heaters turned all the way up? The water has been this temp for weeks now. Are you thinking (hoping?) that the T5 lights will raise the temp by 4-5 degrees by themselves?

Here's a question for you to figure out. How much will the temperature swing between lights on and lights off? Will this be injurious to your living creatures?

As far as the fish' comfort with the lights, I believe your tank is located in a common area of the hourse, correct? The natural daylight will be plenty of light for the fish. The added T5's may make them feel like they are on stage :)

i dont want to sound like a downer, but i wouldnt add the fish just yet. if i were you rt6, i would add a few cocktail shrimp to the system to give the biological properties a boost! right now as your system is, your parameters will be stable because there is no waste being created. once you add fish into the system, you cant be sure that the boilogical filtration aspect will be able to handle the new bioload. the bacteria in your taNK now is only able to handle the bioload provided, which is nothing really. if you add some cocktail shrimp to your tank, they will decompose and create a small nitrogen cycle. this new cycle will give your biological fitration a boost, just enough that it should be able to handle the fish when your reay to add them. you dont want this small cycle to occur while you have fish in the tank.

Ok rumlad i am going to go to the fish store tomorrow and by another heater for the tank. My heaters are all the way up. Yes i am not going to add the perculas yet going to wait for the light. Getting the light very soon. Could i possibly add my cleaner shrimp in there or no.
