Don't forget to plug them in! =)

C'mon I know someone in here has forgot to do that atleast once!

Guilty also!!! But I have reason.... you are supposed to let them adjust to the water temp before plugging them in. Then I just forgot!! lol

lol ok guys well i have been on the phone for the past 30 mins talking to LFS about the heat. i got many different answers. The one guy said that it will take weeks to get the temp up because they room down there is cold. The room in the basement is 60-65 degrees. Then i called another LFS and said the same thing and they said you should have no problem heating the tank you have. I dont know what to do because i am getting many different answers. What should i do and this is the only thing that is holding me back from adding the fish.

You may need more heaters if your basement is really cold. My sump is in a "pit of despair" which is an unheated fruit cellar and I have three 150 watt heaters in there plus two 100 watt heaters in my pre-sump. I do live in Utah and it was an extremely cold winter. I know you have a limited budget, but try to get two more heaters in there and see what happens.

ok i might try that. I have heard that people can run there tanks at this temp and i have seen people run there tanks at 72 but i think thats to low.

When the weather warms up, be sure to unplug all but one heater to avoid cooking your tank accidentally.

yea thats what i will i think i will be fine during the summer but i dont know what to do for know i want to add the fish but the tank temp just wont move.

i dont have another thermometer but they said thats not the problem but i did reset the thermometer 3 times and read the same thing every time i did it.

ok i will get the pics camera is not working right know trying to fix that right know to. The thermometer in the 37 is a little stick on one sometimes if you peel them off they dont work anymore. I dont think its the thermometer because when i take it from the 90 to the 37 it changes in temp. The basement is between 60-65. What do you guys think of this idea. ok well right know i have a 37g and i have a 200w heater in there so this is what i am going to do. I am going to take the 200w heater out of that tank and put the one that i think is malfunctioning in the 37 and then see what happens. Good or bad idea

Are both heaters hot when you touch them? I would guess at least one is not and it is not heating the water. If they are both hot then they are not putting out enough heat. This just seems like such an easy problem to solve, either a heater is broken or you need more heaters or more powerful ones for your setup.

I have followed this thread on and off since it started and keep coming away with the feeling that this is just going to be a disaster. If you are having so much trouble with the easy stuff, things are going to get really hairy when you have a problem with a tank full of livestock. I used to commend all the helpful people in this thread, but I am starting to think their advice is just leading to the delinquency of a minor. :)

600watts is definitely enough to heat the tank.
Steelerguy - So what youre saying is if both the heaters are hot then they are not putting out enough heat?

ok guys well the fish store told me i can run the tank at 75 degrees. But i will see what happens when i add the other heater.

Bad idea. Leave your 37g alone so the livestock doesn't have to be put at risk. Go buy a new $5 thermometer.

yes got the light. i dont think moving the heater will matter because i have seen the heater go on a couple of times but what do you think about them telling me i can have a reef tank at 75 degrees

That is exactly what I am saying. If they are both hot, then they are working (although maybe not well, but that is beside the point), if they are both working and the tank is still too cool, then they are not generating enough heat.
