ok guys well some updates in the past few days the temp has risen to 76. The temp stays at 76 range the whole day and at night it goes down to the high 74's and low 75's. The thermometer is working because i put my hand in my 37 and its usually hotter then the 90. So last night i added some fish because the temp has been staying around 76 during the day and high 74's and low 75's during the night so i said to myself lets go and try some fish in there. In the past two nights the clowns have been doing great and are already swimming around together and eating together. I will get some pics for you guys in a little bit. Have to see if the camera is working right.

yea i am trying to it has been going up ever so slightly. Do you think i will have a problem with the temp going down a little at night or no.

I don't have any idea how I can say what has already been said any differently or better. Your asking about temp going down at night, it's normal for the temp to drop a little during the night time hours. It does it in the wild also. You have if I've read correctly, enough heat to raise your tank to 88 plus degrees. You said in another part of this that you had the heaters set to 82 degrees but the tank is 75. As Melev and others have said, 75 is too cold for the majority of animals you are keeping. This cool of a temp will cause all kinds of trouble for you.

Have you turned the thermostats on at least one (preferably the new) heaters up past 82? It will not hurt if you turn it up as far as it will go for now. Ignore the numbers on the heater, turn it WIDE open. Then watch the tank after a couple of hours and see what the temp does.

This is all assuming that you have bought a new thermometer to measure the temp with. Think glass floater, or stick on. Once you get this under control you should be on your way to a great reef experience ;).

Your aquascape looks great. Hopefully those rocks are attached to each other using something stronger than gravity.

did you get a glass thremometer yet? i think the "blue moon" lights are not the moon lights, but the actinics....

actinic lights dont put off white light becasue they are in the 450nm range which in the visible spectrum shows blue....

moon lights, usually light emitting diods (LED), wont give you a nice coverage of light like shown in the pic. they give more of a spotlight effect.

in any case, the tank looks good so far, but you really need to get a handle on your tempurature rt6! your fish are native to waters that are commonly above 76 degrees, and the tanks they have been held in are above 76 degrees as well. i could be wrong, but i wouldnt be suprised to hears that your clowns develop ich in the next few days.
exterme situations call for extreme measures. beg your parents to take you to the LFS and buy you a new heater and glass thremometer. just remind them how much money has gone into this tank already, and give them an IOU... im sure they'll understand. that way you can get this little hickup out of the way, and be on with reef keeping. right now, what yor doing isnt reef keeping. its problem solving. you need to get the problem solving out of the way to ensure your success at this.
go ask your parents right now. it wont be more than $30.oo to solve your problem. ;)

OK thanks for all the comments guys. I will not be able to get out of the house because it is my moms birthday. Not going to be able to get out. The rocks are only secured by gravity i have tested them though. My power heads put a lot of movement then i put my hand in there as well and moved my hand back and forth did not fall. I will try to get all the things i need asap. I did move the heaters up to 89 and the tank is still the same.

When i scape i do the tap test. What you do is just tap on top of the rocks to see if they fall because you dont want to put a new coral on top of rock and it all topples over.

Understand about sticking around for the birthday, tell her happy birthday from us ;)

You said you turned the heater up to 89 and the tank is the same temp now. Eh, without a different thermometer it's hard to say what to do. If the lights are coming on and off in the heaters, they "think" they are at the right temperature. When you get a new thermometer, ignore the setting on the heater, turn them up and up and up until you get to the temp Melev suggested. The numbers on the heaters are just a ballpark, a very rough ballpark estimate.

Oh and I agree, I like your rockwork ;) Have fun with Mom today!

OK thanks guys i will tell her. Johnny iam really not sure what i should after i get another thermometer. i guess the only thing i can do is add another heater. But if i have one heater upstairs and one downstairs will this change at all or is it just a waste of time.

Are the lights going on and off on the heaters now? That's the important issue at this point. Your thermometer now may be right. It's not worth cooking your clowns to find out though. Hold up on another heater, don't mess with your other tanks. Get a new glass thermometer, they are inexpensive.

After you check the temp with it then you will know for sure what to do. If it agrees that the temperature is low, and the lights are going off on the heaters, TURN ONE UP. Easy, IGNORE the numbers on the heaters. They mean squat. Just keep turning up the heat until you get the temp you desire and the light is cycling on and off at that point. Then you are set. If one heater gets turned up all the way and will not raise the temp, start turning the other one up. Your heaters are most likely set at 75 degrees rt now. Just hang on till you can get a new measurement.

(Begging works wonders :) Oh please please take me to the store!!)

Just noticed the upstairs downstairs thing. I'd leave them in the sump just for appearances. It will not make a difference in temp moving one upstairs you are not far enough from your sump to cool the water before it gets to your display.
