Refractometer - 26 bucks

I just got a portable refractometer thru EBAY for 26 dollars and that included shipping and handling.
Looks like a quality piece of equipment but I have no idea who makes it. It is made in China and and the model is RHS-10ATC and that is about all I know .
Does anyone else have one ?
Do you think I did well?

I have had that one for 2 yrs now works great. i would dial it in with solution and keep an eye on it every now and again

I've been using mine for a year and it works great. I calibrate it with RO water now and then, but haven't had to adjust it since it arrived. I bet it's the identical one; got it on eBay for around that price and it was from Hong Kong, if I remember correctly.

I'd suggest calibrating it with a seawater standard. Calibrating with RO water typically leaves refractometers inaccurately calibrated for seawater. They are designed for sodium chloride solutions, and they report back the specific gravity and salinity of a sodium chloride solution, not seawater. The difference is not huge, but easily noted with a refractometer. Pinpoint (American marine) sells an inexpensive calibration solution. :)

I discuss those and many other issues here:

I have a RHS-10ATC. It's good once it's calibrated with Pinpoint 53.0mS soultion to 35 ppt. I was surprised to find how far off it was when using RODI.

RHS-10ATC= 90 % of the refracts used in the hobby. They are made by Huake Instrument Co.,Ltd , China

Off topic, but I have a sybon refractometer. I've calibrated it with both RO/DI and the 53.0mS solution. Comes out the same both ways. :D

When using the Pinpoint fluid, did you calibrate it to 35 ppt or sg = 1.0264? I presume they do not exactly line up?

Hey Randy,

Weather I calibrate with the RO/DI or the soltuion the lines are perfect. I calibrate to 35ppt. I have another refractometer (RHS-10ATC) which can only be calibrated with the solution.
