If you QT everything and then don't QT one fish, you kind of defeated the purpose of QTing all those previous specimens...

If you only care about the immediate health of the regal, add it right to the display.

If you're worried about the health of the regal long term and all the other fish in your DT, quarantine it.

if you add straight to display they do better since he'll have a full reef to feed from. BUT like mentioned above, you risk adding disease to your DT. Also, if you have fish in your setup then you are doing him more harm because if they stress him he will most likely stop feeding. you are better off putting him in qt and if he's hardy he will be fine and get stronger in qt in time.

If the fish is from Diver's Den, then there is no reason too add it straight to the DT. The fish is already adapted, and eating prepared foods. It's not going to starve in QT.

DD, they have 1000's of fish. I am sure the fish that you buy will share the same water supply with many other fish, which increases the likelihood that the fish might carry some parasite.

Sure most of the time it will probably work out okay, but its a risk i'm not willing to take. i value the livestock in my DT too much.

Angels are too prone to parasites/worms to not treat prophatacially. I would suggest at minimum do a treatment of prazipro.

Divers Den puts each fish through a full QT before adding it to the fish system. Some things like Lymphocystis and other bacterial infections are inevitable with the stress of shipping, but I honestly wouldn't worry too much about things like IP/Crypt.

Every fish in my tank is from DD or Captive bred, and I have had crazy Alk swings, pH swings, temp swings, lighting issues (thank GOD I just got my RKL in the mail) and have not had one parasite issue with the fish. Had a little IP scare but it turned out I was just feeding too much mysis to the coral and the fish were picking it off (=white poop).

For what it's worth, I did QT EVERY fish that went into my FOWLR with copper until one time where a fellow RC reefer told me the system was parasite free. Added the fish in and 3 weeks later my entire tank was wiped out (crypt). I waited too long to treat. I don't think its a risk with DD fish though.

DD, "Once again, all fish brought into this facility are quarantined, observed and medicated if need be for a minimum of two weeks. "

to me that does not equal full QT. full QT to me is also prophylactically treating for parasites via hypo/copper/etc.

Just check with copps or campbell and see if they are willing to add any fish without personally treating it with copper during QT first. when someone has a $2500 conspic angelfish in their tank, their view in regards to full QT differs dramatatically. Although I dont have any fish that epensive, I've devoted a lot of time into my DT.

DD spends 2 weeks, sometimes more with their QT. With the amount of fish they have coming in and out sharing the same water, to me, its not worth the risk..

Even DD suggests QT for everything; including their fish. IMO, when it comes to QT; there really is nothing to discuss. QT everything, always. (I've always wanted to say the following in this forum, but now is the time!) "PERIOD." (Finally!.) IMO; a fish is not stressed by a good QT. Just the opposite. It is a quiet, peaceful place to settle down and strengthen.

I have an Achilles tang I got from DD and it has been great. Started eating after one day. Put him direct into DT. Has been great and never sick.

Even DD suggests QT for everything

I think this says alot, if the place you're buying the fish from recommends Qt'ing, why wouldn't you? What's the downside?

I'd like to hear from the 11 people that have voted so far for skipping the qt, what's the reasoning?

I'm with MrTuskfish, qt everything always.

I'll bet those 11 voters have never had to deal with a parasite or disease outbreak in their DT. (Or did, and didn't learn.) But, it WILL happen; only question is when.

I did have an outbreak which wiped out a whole tank ($700 in fish), and I did learn. I just truly do not believe that any of the fish from divers den have an issue. I believe that they say you should still QT just to cover themselves and also for feeding/acclimation purposes.

Like I said pH swings, ALK swings, temp swings, never a spot on any of the fish (everything came from DD or Captive bred in sterile systems).

I'm all about putting fish in the QT 1st no matter what the fish is.I have just heard so many different things in other threads. So I just wanted to know what some people thoughts were and why.

Sure. That'll happen most of the time. Where I live, I can run red lites without even looking...most of the time. Both are very poor examples of what is best, how about the time it doesn't work? That is what QT is all about; making sure nothing slips through all the cracks.
One fish, one time, means absolutely nothing. Probably, nothing would happen next time either; and that wouldn't mean anything either. But, sooner or later, something will go wrong. I honestly have never read anything, from anyone whose advice I would take (People like Fenner, Goemans, several people on this forum, DD staff, etc.), who doesn't insist on QT for everything. If I don't listen to the real experts, why would I bother asking?

I'm extremely surprised by the number of people recommending against QTing. While I realize many do not practice what they preach, I figured at least most would recommend QT.

This place never ceases to amaze me.
