Regal Angel Primer

Great thread!

Have a question regarding the Red Sea Regal...

I am looking to get a small one - about 2" or so.

Do they have full color development at 2" - or does full color development come when they get larger?

FW Dip for up to 20 minutes (one I had to pull out at 10, the other I think could of gone a half of a day) and Prazi Pro. I have never used copper except Tangs that had ich, all went under some kind of QT for 3 to 4 weeks. Tough to hear about your Regal not making it

Is PraziPro the "ultimate" QT solution now?

Are Seachem Cupramine, ParaGuard, etc. - a thing of the past? lol

Also, what do you think of this new medicated food from Spectrum?

At 2" mine was fully colored but still had the juvenile dot. Around 1" they are a lighter yellow color. I have never seen a 1" Redsea Juvenile.

My other regal has now been in my QT for about 6 weeks and has eaten aggressively since the beginning. That fish is also fat and seems very comfortable in captivity. That fish will stay in QT for another week or two, which is when my prazi pro treatment will be complete.

What is the recommended QT time...?

It looks like you QT for 8 weeks?

According to the PraziPro instructions:

A single treatment lasting 5-7 days is normally sufficient. Repeat as necessary, but no more than once every 3 to 5 days.

Ever try ParaGuard?

I was told that this is a juvi RS Regal

looks like the babies that Michael had been getting in 8 months ago or so... Here is one of the two I got at the time... Couldn't keep them alive, they didn't ship well either.

Prazi is for internals and flukes and Cupramine is for ich. I have used paraguard before but I believe that it's mostly useless for treating everything but flukes... Most do 2 rounds of Prazi. The other angel in the video is a multibarred

Sorry, let me clarify what I do. I put the fish into QT and observe for usually 1-2 weeks. I then do 3 weeks of cupramine. When cupramine treatment is complete, I remove the copper and then do two Prazi Pro treatments one week apart. I then observe again before placing the fish into my DT. I do this with all my fish, not just my regals. This QT process takes me anywhere from 6-8 weeks in total

According to this YouTube video you can use both Cupramine and PraziPro together...

I know of many people who use the treatments together and successfully. I don't mind using them separate because I want them in my qt for 6-8 weeks anyway. I like getting them used to all the foods I feed and and want them to fatten up before going into my DT.

I've read through quite a bit of this thread in the past but I can't remember what the recommendation is on timing of placement into a DT. Am I remembering correctly that Regal's should be one of the first additions to a new tank to help with getting them to establish and eat well once in the DT?

I plan on QT'ing all new fish before entering my system.

I'll let the Pros in here chime in, but from my research and understanding (a lot of which has to do with the expertise of these guys on here) - that is my understanding as well...

I finally was able to introduce my two regals. I used an acclimation box that I made because my store bought one was too small and I wasn't sure how long the fish would be in it. This was when I only had about half my actinics on

After a couple days and viewing no aggression, only curiosity, I thought I would release it into my DT. This was within the first 5 minutes of being introduced. The new regal is on the left

And just the new Regal and his beautiful markings

The two have only been together a couple days now, but I haven't seen any fronting or aggression at all. They spend some time swimming together and some time apart. So far, I couldn't be happier with how it has gone. Better than I could have imagined. They both have the longer gill spike. The new addition is slightly larger.

Sweet looking Regals. How big is your DT?

Hey guys started reading This thread since I would like to keep a regal in my tank once it becomes more established, i just want to know if a 75 gallon lightly stocked mixed reef would be okay if I got a small specimen to begin with? Also does anyone know if they bother euphillia corals like they do zooanthids? Thx
