Regal Angel Primer

Sweet, looks like I'll need to research the feeding issues/requirements

Aaron

Yup, shouldn't be an issue. Feeding could be tough though, make sure an ample QT is provided otherwise the regal could be shy in the DT with all those aggressive feeders. Good luck!

Thanks for the help.

This is my current QT, 40 cube, and it's current members. Once they complete the QT, I'll start looking for one.

Awesome! 40 is a great QT size.

If price is not an issue get a Red Sea or Indian Ocean variant. They have yellow bellies :) also read this entire thread, it's probably the best resource out there for Regal's.

Divers Den is a good place to get one, but you probably knew that already. I would also contact Jordan at Among The Reef, shoot him an email.. Jordan's a great guy. He's getting me one!

Thank you! I'm excited! I didn't actually think I would ever have a real Angel.

You have a 180!

Regal is hands down my favorite fish. I've probably done the most research for any 16 year old fish nerd :lmao: Angels are awesome and you have the tank for it. Although word of advice, a Naso in a 180 is pushing it.

I know, I see that now. LA I guess is more like a guide line.

I have designed my rock work to maximize the length, lots of free swimming room, straight runs front and back. When my Tunze 6105 gets here I'll have over 60Xs display flow which I think will keep him busy. A few more weeks I'm adding a second 6105 with my MP60.

I think/hope he will be very happy. If not I'm sure I can easily find a friend that wouldn't mind a free QT'd Naso.

Regals don't care much about swimming room but rather want lots of rock walls with overhangs, caves and crevices.
My Regals avoid the open water if they can. They prefer to stay near the cover of the rockwork or close to overhangs and cave entries to be able to seek cover quickly if needed.

So I would add a few more rocks for a regal.

Here some videos of some of my Regals

I was actually referring to the Naso. I can always take rock from my 100g sump and put it in the display. I've almost run out of places to mount frags anyway. Great videos!

Aaron

Wait!!!!! I can keep more than one? So they don't kill each other like tangs!? Lol

Aaron

I would only keep them in pairs if I had the tanks for it. Unfortunately I only have one tank large enough for a pair.
And a pair in a 40 gallon tank would be really pushing it...

Thomas, he has a 180.. :)
40 is only the QT and he could QT them at separate times. I would be comfortable QT'ing two regals in a 40.

I was referring to my 3 other Regal Angels which are in 40 gallon tanks. They are still small, so space is not a real issue. But for a pair you need at least a 100 gallon tank.

As for QT - a 40B should be fine, even for a pair if separated by eggcrate.

I would just get two from the same region.
Best are specimen between 3 and 5 inches.
The ideal size difference is about a tailfin length.
Mature specimen can be sexed fairly easy, but may be more difficult to acclimate.

I would want to ensure that I got a male and female each?

Aaron

So what do I need to do to prepare, foods, QT set up, medications that kind of stuff?
