Regal Angel Primer

I sent the video to LA and they think now it is a swim bladder issue.

Their suggestion of feeding it boiled peas will of course not work as the fish isn't eating at all :debi:

Sad to ear ... I don't know wether you're ready to try anything ... But I once force fed a red devil cichlid that had hexamita with a feeding Seringe . Food + crushed vitamin c until he got better and ate on his own.

I mean if you think he may be on the verge of death ... Boiled peas might work!

Force feeding may be the only remaining option.
I've never done it but with a fish of this size it should be doable.
Is there anywhere a detailed description (ideally with pictures) on how to do it?

I personally was winging it since I was so used to weaning baby parrots and giving medication to cats ,dogs, reptiles and rodents... So I didn't research it , I just did it.

I did it over wet Scott towel with a bucket of aquarium water on hand just in case the fish was in distress and I wore surgical gloves ( the blue ones not the latex ) I thought the grip was better and it seemed like I would not damage his protective coat as much as with my skin.

I used a small medicine Seringe maybe 1.0 or 1.5 cc like the ones for baby vitamins.

I found these YouTube videos for medication ... I find they take a lot of time out of water , but they do this routinely without hitch so who am I to say it's bad !

I found some 10fr (= 3.33 mm diam.) urinary catheters on ebay that should work. They have a nice round tip and the hole on the side.
I also ordered a few boxes of syringes of various sizes.

I will have to empty out the tank to catch it as a trap won't work with a fish in this condition.
After that it will have to be housed in a 20 long as long as I need to force feed it.

I'm not too optimistic - too many things can go wrong even if the force feeding works.

10fr is still quite large. I would look at a blood drawing kit called a "butterfly" set. Will have a very small tube with the lure loc on one end that connects to the syringe. If I was still working in the hospital, I would get some and send them to you. When I get home I will look through my old stuff and see if I have any.

I would love for you to document the result here.
I think anything put down the throat of the fish will end up into the stomach or out the gill. There is no other destination. If you put it past the gill then it will end up in the stomach. We do not have to worry about stuffing things down the lung like in mammals. IMO, use a soft tube so you will not injure the fish and just put it past the gill. At least this is what I would do if I am attempt to do what you are about to do.

Best of luck

If anyone reading this sees an issue with my plan please reply.

I have a 3-4" Red Sea Regal arriving in the morning. I plan to acclimate with QT water and then formalin dip for 40 minutes. My QT is a 40 gallon breeder divided in the center with egg crate. The other half as a whitetail bristle tooth tang, around the same size. He was dipped in formalin on Tuesday and is doing well, although still not eating much.

I plan to wait a few days as hopefully the regal will be eating by then. Nyaquatics told me he looks great and is actively eating mysis and clam on the half shell. Fingers crossed.

Next week I will treat with copper and prazipro. Also in the qt are 4 chromis.

Please wish me luck!

You plan to wait to do what?

Copper isn't a good approach with any fish.
With a regal I would even be very careful with TTM and only do it after the fish is absolutely stable.

Also, I hope the chromis have been properly soaked in formalin for a good long while to make sure they didn't bring unwanted gifts (uronema).

That is what NYA told me about the regal I order from him also but it never ate for me. Also I was told it was a 4-3/4 fish but when it arrived it was 6 inches exactly. I also believe it came in with velvet. Good Luck.

Chromis were also in the formalin for 45 minutes. I have no intentions of TTM with the regal. I plan to with the tang, however. Perhaps I will skip the cupramine and let just observe for a month.

This purchase was WYSIWYG. Sorry to hear yours didn't make it.
