Regal Angel Primer

LOL! I don't know for sure now that you mention it. My Regal is about 4" long. The spine is about 3/16". Maybe "she" is a "he"? What is considered a short spine and what is considered a long spine?

HOZERTHEBONEFISH, thanks for the compliment :D

EDIT: Ok, I just looked back through this thread to Steve Atkins picture. His Regal has a huge spine that almost reaches the dorsal fin. That is truly a male. Therefore based on that I would say mine is a female.

Hahaha I looked back also and dang some spine are huge. I wonder how big Steve Atkins Regal is? Maybe like another animal as the animal age their "display" changes. Kinda like Lions the male will have mane but when they are at their peak the mane is much darker or black. It might be like the silverbacks also?

Can you post some close ups. I havent seen a yellow spine on a regal. BTW do you seriously have all those tangs in a 75 tank? Or are you just setting bait for the tang police???LOL

Henry

HOZERTHEBONEFISH,

I'll try to get some good photo soon of my regal.

About the tang I got feed up with the Tang Police. They always say "tank too small" "too many tang for this and that tank" However they also don't get the point that they said that once min tank size is met you still can't over stock with tang. So this 75 g is proof that you can have all that tang in a 75g even tho its only in my head. I wanted to put 20,000 gal tank with 40,000 tang since 1,500 gal long tank is best and meet all tank so 20,000 tank should make it tang stock limitless but a little unbelieveable. hence 75gal is a believeable size which I believe is doable if you can get them all very young and only in a very short term. LoL I should do that and take pictures of that. j/k I only have 1 blue tang in my 110 reef.

Steve,

Thanks,

lol there goes my idea with the short yellow spine and long blue spine thing out the door. guess the only thing that the spine is the short and long.

Another pic. Showing off his spine again.

now do you think its a female or male? i am going with female at this point, shes about 4-4.5"

i just feed and it ate again, so i am hopeful this one will make it, next step is to try and get her to eat nori, any suggestions?

thanks!

Nick

I couldn't get a good shot of my regel last night but then again yesterday wasn't good for me.

Just wondering from everyone.
Why do we try to feed our fish nori? I know some fish are grazer and need their veggies but when I look at the back of the package on nori at less the ones from the food store and bearly any food value to it. IMHO nori is just a filler and not too much food value at all. If the fish store type different? I try to feed mine other feed type or macro that to me would have more food value. Ive been wondering this for a while.

Looks like a nice healthy specimen. If spine size is, in fact, an accurate measure then it does look like yours is a female since, while your fish is the same size as mine, it's spine is less than 1/2 the size.

d34532:

Perhaps absolute food value is not what the get from it. It might be the roughage that they need to help keep their intestinal tract in good nick. Mine eats nori with great enthusiasm but I think it possible attacks frozen cabbage leaf with even more vigour. Thinking about it, I think the tangs might slightly prefer the cabbage leaf also.

Steve,

That is what I was thinking also. I just like the idea of fresh macro. funny thing is that I can never get any of my fish to go for nori even my tang. I don't have any problem with any other food but they ignore the nori as if it wasn't even there. My guess is that mine gets its fiber and isn't interested in dried stuff. I have to prop macro in other tanks can't keep any macro in my tank lol they just don't last.

Hey guys well i have a question here...

my current regal the one in the pic is doing GREAT (knock on wood of course).... she's eating and active and picking at the rock all day long.....

anyway keep in mind this one is a 4.5" female...

now heres the question,

my tank is 275 gallons its 60" long X 44" wide X 24" tall and has a big BK 300 internal on it....

anyway i have a chance to get a nice 3.5" female well i think it to be an female...

now the question is should i go for it and add the other female?

i am trying to get a real male regal angel to try and atleast pair with the current female in the tank.... or the 2 females that i would have in the tank if i get this other regal...

now the other angel in the tank will be a conspic angel...

so what do you think here?

any thoughts?

thanks!

Nick

alright, thanks any tips on introducing a male to the tank with an exsisting female?

thanks again!

Get a bigger male than the existing female, be sure that is strong and eating before put them together.

Well little problem here...

i have had my regal for about 12ish days and he was eating great! i mean very well....

but now these last 2 days he is not really intrested in the food...

nothing has changed still feed the same food, exact same food and the same way but no intrest...

so should i crack open a clam for the time being?

any advice? i though someone else had this problem... how did you fix it?

thanks!

Nick

or should i just continue to feed? i feed 2 times a day right now...

i am thinking the clam would be best, but any other ideas?

i mean this is not a sign of disease is it? i also noticed he is breathing alittle harder....

thanks!

Nick

Nick,

Is this the first regal or did you get a second one? Breathing harder is not a good sign. Mine sometimes goes through a day of not really being an aggressive eater, but never more than a day and very infrequently. What other fish are in there and do you quarentine anything?
