Regal Angel Showoff Thread!!!!

hello fellow canadian,
mind i ask where u pick this beauty up and what sorts of food is he eating now?

Hi Orangegoby, I'm in London, Ontario and I got the regal at Incredible Aquarium here in London. If you are in this area, I'm sure Bill could get another one in for you. Otherwise, I'm sure the Toronto area will have a store that carries one. I bought mine on a whim, which in hindsight with this finicky species is ill advised, so I'd do your homework regarding size, origin of shipment, etc. prior to taking the plunge. This one was eating right in the store. He ate right away in my tank, albeit very small amounts initially. He primarily eats mysis... he won't eat NLS pellets yet but I'm trying to get him trained. He cruises my reef and nips at a lot of algae and sponges as well. I do need to find another food for him long term to complement mysis. I tried RN macro feast, but he wouldn't touch it. Nori isn't preferred by him either.

I've had this Divers Den Yellow Belly since 6/5/12. About 5 1/4" and unfortunately will only eat oyster in the shell.

Doesn't DD only post them when they are eating prepared foods such as mysis??? Makes you wonder if they are telling the truth or if the fish had a change of heart after the move.

DD properly quarantine them, perhaps until they eat some sorts of food.....but doesn't always specify which food the fish is eating...it could well be it was eating clam/oyster there too....need to know what they said for that particular fish....
i think given time the fish will eventually take other foods....

I soaked PE Mysis Cube in a hint of Garlic. If I put too much he wouldn't eat it. Now he eats everything, PE Mysis, Spiralina Brine, Mini Mysis, Angel Formula all soaked in Zoe.

"Frozen brine and cockle shell" .... according to DD; wouldn't even look at brine and still doesn't.

Best I've done to date is get it to eat oyster off a clip (in a shell). Tried pellets imbedded in the oyster...nope.

OMG! I never NEVER should have viewed this thread. So many beautiful Regals, I just want something I cannot have right now EVEN more!

Sincerely,
Matthew
PS. My faves are the ones that are orange-yellow, I think they are all INdian Ocean/Red Sea ( is anyone even catching/shipping those with so much turmoil in that part of the world??)

They are being collected out of the red sea. I am actually getting a 5 inch red sea regal next weekend for less than $100. I also might be getting a Chaetodon paucifasciatus, as long as the guy who's ordering it can get it for less than $50. People are definitely bringing them in, you just have to know the right people.

pairing Regal Angels

pairing Regal Angels

anyone have any thoughts/experience with pairing regal angels?...I presently have an 4"+ Indo Regal for about a year, that is doing great, eats everything (except corals), has doubled in size and gets along with my 9 other angels...a YB Regal (almost the exact same size) that has been tank raised for over 2 years is now available.

Is there any chance that these 2 could co-exist in either my 450g or 300DD...I may put them together (but partitioned) in a 120g QT to see how they do together...

anyone ever tried it?

I'm not an expert on Pomicanthids, yet. I say slowly introduce them to each other in the 120 QT and see how they do. Although, I personally would only try this with angels of noticeably different sizes. Keep an eye on them and eventually take the partition out. Make sure both eat and the idea of feeding on both sides of the tank is a good one, should see that they still get their food. GL with pairing them!

That's basically wholesale, so it's not just who you know... it's who you know that works at a wholesaler or imports directly and will give you a great price ;) Please please PLEASE QT these fish as they will be "fresh"...

I've had my Regal for five years now. It did not take any prepared food for the first two months. I had pretty much given up and then he started eating. He now eats everything including flake food.

here is my regal yellow/orange belly from Indian ocean side of sumatra
had him since 10/05 I just sold my 450 to a friend of mine he went with tank he is 5"+ now. I have visiting rights LOL
