Regal dies within 24 hours

So, I got a Regal Angel (was not a Red Sea) this Sunday from a store in NJ, I don't want to mention the name because It is a SUPER GOOD STORE OVER ALL!!!
It was on the medium/large size, well by Monday he was gone! I'm not a rookie I have been in this hobby for almost 9 years now and I do have experience with difficult fish, mandarins, copperband, and powder blue, even if he was bullied by some of my fish, I don't think that I fish from bulling will die within 24 hours, the only thing I'm thinking is maybe it would have been better to put him in the sump for some time but again I don't think it's the bulling that killed him. Anyways I'm looking for some advice because I'm looking to get another one, and is there a store in NJ/NY that has a good rep with Regal Angels.
And I want to be clear that the store I got it from is grate and I will still buy their!!!
just thinking different wholesale vendors, better specimen on some fish???

Thanks.

Well he did not look sick to me, but at the same time I can't say that he was perfect and I did not see him eating at the store, acclamation was fine but when I got him into my tank, I think I did see him eating something when I was feeding my tank, for most of time he was at the back of the tank where I have a lot of room for hiding,
I have to mention that my wife claims that my fish get better food then us!!! I feed the best only frozen and a mix of everything I got all of LRS foods and others.
That day I got a maids blenny as well and he is doing grate(but that's not hard fish to keep).

Sorry.

Unfortunately, without seeing it eat in the store, and without it going in to qt, we'll never know what happened.

I somewhat agree
if anyone knows of a store in NJ/NY that is known to qt. them and condition them before they go on sale, I’ll pay the extra

Why not order one from LiveAquaria - they have a 14 day guarantee on livestock. I have been very impressed with the fish and corals I've ordered over the years.

Yikes - I didn't see that - the main page says starting from $79.99, but all they have in stock starts at $299!

Price is based on size. If you get the fish off divers den (they claim) it has been treated for parasites, kept in QT, and is eating well before it's put up for sale. I think I read the over all time put into the fish is 3 months? I could be wrong on that so don't quote me. You will pay more for divers den, but then you're paying for the extra attention. On the regular site, the fish are priced according to size and where they come from. And yeah, they might not be as cheap as your LFS, but you can call LA for up to 2 weeks after your purchase if there is an issue. If the fish dies, they refund your money. Very few questions asked. I have found them very easy to deal with and well worth the extra ten bucks or so they charge for that health guarantee.

If you are able to see it in person, next time make sure it's eating before you purchase it. If it's eating you will have a chance, plus quarantine no matter what.

Don't get me wrong, I love Live Aquaria - very fair on the refund or replace policy too - their fish arrive in excellent shape and they do go through a quarantine process described on their site. I agree, $300 for an Angel fish seems very high -not sure what a Regal Angel costs at a LFS though, but I would pay more to get one from LA - just not sure how much more without knowing what one at a LFS costs.

My LFS gets them in pretty regularly and they are around 3-4 inches and he sells them anywhere from $99-$120. I just don't trust the store. Too many sick fish.

Don't feel too bad. I got a Maldivian Regal off Diver's Den a while back that was gorgeous. After 7 days of being in QT (No meds either) he just died. He was eating too. Some of these fish just aren't handled and shipped very well.

Anytime you move a fish, there is a chance they may not survive. Regal Angelfish are tops on the list and why most only offer a arrive alive guarantee . LA and DD offer a 14 day but they double the price to do this on regals.

If I do get another one I will try to get a small one, and it will go into my refugim first, I have done this with 2 mandarins 4 years ago, I got them for a good price because they looked like they were about to die because of not eating (not having a source of food) I still have them.
