Regenerate DI Resin? Be careful! A story of explosions.

To start no one was severely hurt during this truly dumb Butt attempt at regenrating di resin. And yes Paul, I was being very careful and following all the instructions. It was going good untill the 1st step on the instructions. Yep I said the 1st step! All materials were laid out and ready. I carefully measure the di water to mix with the lye and put it in the jar, then carefully measured the lye and poured it into the water. Everything perfect so far. I put the lid on the jar and placed it in the ice water to keep it cool. everything still good untill I shook it like the instructions said to do. i had stepped away to gather the stuff for the next step when I heard a whistle coming out of the bucket. I knew what was about to happen so I open the back door to put the whole bucket outside but I was too late. I reached for the bail on the bucket when it exploded. which got me pretty good but luckily I quickly stripped down and jumped in the shower to rinse off. I came out to see paint peeling off the cabinets in pretty much the entire kitchen. the celing was hit and 2 other rooms. 3 hours later everything was cleaned up and nobody seriously hurt. I did end up with some burns on my left hand and right arm but not too bad. The kitchen was one of the few rooms I hadn't remodeled since we moved into this house. Shannon did let me know that it was the hard way to add more to her "honey do list" lesson learned. Next try will be outdoors and I will stir the mix with the lid off. bright side is my sink has never been so white. lol

And thats why buying Di resin is always such a good deal.

Im so very glad you didnt stand over it and take a look.
Lye can be very bad, especially when it gets hot.

Just kidding Chris, glad you're ok!!!!

I learned on my 1st beer not to get near a whistling bottle. Just a big mess and I was already planning on painting the kitchen, now just doing it a little sooner. I was lucky it didnt get me worse. My left hand took the majority of the blow but was rinsed instantly which saved me from bad burns. I'm still interested in trying it again but Ill be a little better prepaired. I think with a little practice the job really isnt that bad. I will try to document it on the next try. and Madkat Ill text you a pic of my arm and hand! lol
