Reid's 120g Oceanic Tech Build

Yes, those will work as well/better than the one's from Lowes. The union ball valves are a good choice, too. I'd still get gate valves for anything you want fidelity in control, though.

Of course I have. I use them both on my 280g reef as well as my angled tank. And it was a simple walk-in plumbing supply, nothing amazing like we might hope for.

The cool thing is that you may run into another reefkeeper while you are there, like we did that visit. :D

I have been looking for a good place to order valves, and found that several people on here have ordered from savko.com. What have been the experiences?

Would these work better than the ones that I am taking back to Lowes?

I ordered from savko for those tru-union valves - they are superb. easy to turn, easy to put together/take apart.

great build - great looking house! and in terms of being over-budget...wait until you see your electric bill! :eek2:

Gah!!! Don't mention that! If we don't talk about it, it won't happen!

Hehehe! I'm on a variable month-to-month rate right now based on the cost of natural gas. Last month my entire bill was $75, whereas last year this time it was over twice that (yes, we run the air conditioning pretty much throughout february and march). My per kwh was under $0.09. I wish I could lock it in there.

$75 a month is definately a great rate for everything. I think we are paying about $80 a month right now, and I don't have anything but the skimmer up! Damn you beautiful MH lighting!

I have been marinating on an idea today at work, but haven't really had time to get too far into it...

Instead of mounting my MH reflectors on the lid of my canopy, what if I were to create some sort of mechanism to raise or lower them so that I could play with it and find out where I am getting the best concentration of light?

I have no idea how I would do this, but I am betting it has been done before. Anyone have any ideas?

I think thats a great idea. I have my MH reflector attached to the canopy top and I wish I had the flexibility to raise/lower it. I think it can be done many different ways, pulleys, chain links...Depending upon your application be sure that you can remove the canopy easily -ie..a swinging pendant is an easy way to damage expensive bulbs/reflectors!

Yeah, I definately don't want the thing to swing around and break the bulbs! I also don't necessarily want to have any chain or metal up there that will corrode over time.

Talk about being meticulous, five months and the tank isn't even on the stand yet! Regardless, things are looking amazing already, keep it up!

Thanks! I appreciate it!

There were about 2.5 months in there where I was finishing the basement, and I travel a lot for work, so I don't have a lot of time available to work on things during the week. It's getting there though!

Been following you build - looking great! I have finished doing a complete remodel of a house-added about 1500 sq. ft. and added a place for a 150 gal. in wall tank. Hopefully I will be able to start on tank sometime this summer. I will be following your thread -

Thanks for checking it out. I appreciate it. 1500 square feet is a lot to add! Very impressive. Let me know when you get your build going!

It's been too long since I've posted any progress pics of the stand. We're getting close!

The black part is where the canopy will sit on and overlap the top of the tank.

Just inside, you can see the white panel that the T5s will be installed on.

looks good bro! I am almost done my stand for my frag system that i will house in the basement seperate from my main tank. I just need to install the trim so it hides a bit of the tank and stain/seal it. Hoping to get that all completed this week.
