No reason to let them live if you just want them out of the DT. Way easier that way too.

I came to that conclusion too, but by the time I had my skewer in hand, they had moved.

THE HUNT BEGINS!

You could move the probes to a cooler area, so they don't run on high. Watch the tank's temperature though, as you may discover you need them running 100% instead of slower.

That's better, but still pretty loud. Hopefully the temp doesn't go up.

If it does, ds anyone know of any quieter fans?

Reid,
Not sure if you have a princess auto or harbour freight tools near you. They sell 12vdc brushless fans that are cheap i paid 4.99 a piece or 1.99 when they are on sale and they are almost silent. if they ever go which wouldn't happen .. local guy has been using them for 4 yrs staright.... they are cheap enough to replace. If you call princess auto they will evenship them to you. let me know if you require the part number.

I believe that there is a harbour freight that just moved in about 15 min from me. I will check it out. A part number would be awesome!

Well the part number i have is from princess auto. The fan you have seen in my build thread are all 3 5/8" x 3 5/8" 12vdc brushless fans. They are almost silent. i can only barely hear them and only cause i have 7 running!! 3 over the return of the sump and 4 across the geisemann ballasts. I am thinking of building another bank of 3 or 4 to blow across the top of the tank and help disperse the heat radianting off the MHs. These fans are all .25A and are very easy to wire up.

Reid,

Great build. Can you tell me how your overflow is plumbed? Are there 2 overflow pipes and 1 return inside the overflow box (i.e. how many holes in the bottom of the tank)? I am thinking about a tech tank as well. I like the idea of not coming over the back of the tank for the returns. Thanks.

There are 4 holes in the overflow. 2 returns and 2 drains. It's definately a lot tidier than my 29g was!

Hmmmm... $69 purple tangs at Premium Aquatics sale tomorrow. Should I get one and start er cookin in the QT? Might blow up my stock plan if I get an aggressive one. Decisions, decisions...

If it is aggressive you can always put an eggcrate divider down the middle of the tank or remove him to a temporary tank until your new additions feel more comfortable. If you really like that fish that is an amazing deal! Heck, for that price I would have picked one up in place of my scopas.

Found a CBB this week that was eating frozen mysis! He's been in the tank for a few days and is eating like a champ.

Also put 2 ocellaris clowns in there. Made it 5 weeks. Hopefully there is no ich in there.

Trying to get the hang of the new camera as well. This is going to take some practice.

CBB's are so pretty, what part of them was supposed to be potentially not reef safe, do they pick polyps? I've always wanted to try one.

Also, I vote for another FTS now that things are settling down. That anemone island rock in the middle looks pretty sweet!

They may nip at some soft corals like zoas and such, but not so much when you keep them fed. The main knock on them has been that is it hard to get them to eat prepared foods. For a long time, people wo get them to clan out aptasia, and once those were gone, the CBB would slowly starve.

The purple tang has been feeding really well so far in the QT. The strange thing that I'm finding is that he will eat flake from the water column, but won't eat nori from a rock. He will only eat the nori once it starts breaking up and getting into open water.

This is the reverse of my previous experiences with tangs (kole and yellow). They didn't initially feed from the water, and only wanted to pick from the rocks. Thus, when I attached nori to rocks, they would go after it. Differences in fish personalities, I guess?
