Reid's 120g Oceanic Tech Build

Good hearing from you, though sorry that it's about a couple floods! Keep us posted on how the job hunt goes, and good luck.

Perhaps it could, Marc. Perhaps it could...

I do have some news to report!

I picked up a Regal Angel from Premium Aquatics yesterday. Not that I really have the money for it, but it had been eating pellet and mysis there for 10 days, and they sold him to me for $70. He has perfect fins, clear eyes and looked nice an fat. How could I pass?

So far, my purple tang has been following him around a lot, but not showing a lot of aggression anymore. All she was doing before was doing the "fins out, look how big and tough I am" thing. No nipping or chasing. Now she is just kind of keeping an eye on him it seems.

I haven't gotten him to eat yet at home, but yesterday was pretty stressful for him, I'm sure, and he ate at PA just before I brought him home. Lights come on at 2, so I will try again shortly after that.

I'll get some pics today when the lights come on.

As far as eating, he is picking from the rocks, and when I feed, picking some food from the rocks, but he's not eating from the water column yet.

Pics of the Regal

I was able to snap a couple of pics of the Regal Angel today. Didn't have time to grab the tripod or do any adjustments with the camera, so they're kind of rough.

He is picking from the rocks a bit, and picking at chunks of Ocean Nutrition Angel Formula and Spirulina that I attached to a small rock with a zip tie. He's not eating nearly enough for my liking, and has started to lose some weight. I'm trying to find a place in Indy that has live blackworms, but no luck yet.

I've also been feeding PE mysis (frozen), Rods (frozen), Formula 1 pellet, Formula 2 flake and Reef Formula as per usual to the other tank inhabitants... He hasn't shown much interest in them yet.

Gorgeous fish! I see a lot of reef keepers keeping Regal Angels, does something make them more reef safe then other large angels?

There is a higher probability of 'reef safety' with them than some others, but there is still a risk. They are a terror for zoanthidss. I've not heard of anyone successfully keeping one with them. But I don't keep zoanthids, so that works for me. From what I hear, about 1/2 or so will end up going after clams or meaty, brain LPS. For me, it is worth the risk, since I would be OK if I were only able to keep SPS and anemones. I will just have to watch closely and see how it goes.

Had to pull the Regal out to do another freshwater dip last night. I hope it didn't stress him out to the point of regression of his appetite.

I was proven correct during the dip though. He shed a few more flukes.

I will try to get a FTS this weekend.

Today, I am bummed. I lost the Regal. I let myself be talked out of quarantine for it, and I completely regret it now. I knew better.

FTS from the phone. Haven't gotten the real camera and tripod out yet...

Not a lot of progress, unfortunately. I need to sell some plasma to get some corals.

Sorry to hear about the fish. Losing livestock sucks.

On a brighter note, the tank looks great! How are you liking the closed loop? When you do get your corals in there you're gonna have a nice, extrememly stable system.

Bet your purple is lovin the space!

The purple tang is definitely loving it. She is going to be angry when more people move into the neighborhood.

I like the closed loop... but it's not really closed. It's a branch off of one of my return lines. I have been thinking about converting it to a real closed loop. Haven't made my mind up yet.

News of the Day:
My female clown started showing interest in my RBTA today... Finally.

Regal Angel

Regal Angel

Woo hoo!

Got the Divers Den Regal Angel just now! It's from Vanuatu, so it should have been collected properly, especially as opposed to the Indonesian one that I had before. Plus, this one is sure to be eating since they have the 14 day guarantee, and they are the best at delivering livestock by all accounts. This is my first Diver's Den order.

Can't wait to get him into QT... hopefully on Wednesday!

I also picked up a juvenile Pomacanthus navarchus. Hopefully he behaves in my SPS + anemone tank.

Pics attached.

The new kids have arrived and are acclimating...

Here's the majestic:

It's a dark image, because I have the lights off in there while they acclimate, but through the miracle of Photoshop:

Still kind of grainy, and not great photography, but you get the idea.

And the Regal:

They are both looking pretty good. The majestic is tiny... about the size of a quarter. Much smaller than I had anticipated, and he is much more shy than the regal. The regal is active, and will poke his head out of the water to look at me when my face is close to the bucket.

Both the Regal and Majestic are eating.

The majestic is fond of spirulina brine, hikiri mysis and the rod's fish eggs.

Regal will eat spirulina brine, hikiri and pe mysis, and I just got some fresh clams, and cracked one open and put it in there, and that is the first thing I've seen him get really excited about. He's been eating fine, he's just been very leisurely about it until I put that in there.

Neither has taken to the Ocean Nutrition frozen angel formula yet, but I think I might attach it to the clam shell and see if that looks a little bit more tempting.

I've also dropped some frozen spirulina in there, and the regal sampled it some, but it's clearly not a favorite.

No dice on Reef Flakes, Formula 2, nori or spectrum pellet yet.

I also have some rust colored zoos that I got cheap and have been growing out onto a bunch of small rocks. Dropped one of the rocks in there, and no one has touched it.
