Reid's 120g Oceanic Tech Build

Are the angels in the tank yet?

Yeah. I put them in yesterday and left the lights off. Today is their first day with the lights on, and they're still kind of skittish. I haven't been able to get a new pic yet. Good news is that they are eating as long as I'm not standing next to the tank. We'll have to work on that one

I've been working this week to get the angels transferred to the display tank. To start, I wanted to get a clear divider in there so that they could acclimate themselves without being harassed by the purple tang for a few weeks. I learned a valuable lesson...

This, 1/8 in acrylic

Plus this power tool

Ends like this

I wanted there to be holes in there so that some water can still flow through to the other side of the tank, so I regrouped, and purchased a piece of 1/4" acrylic, used my dad's drill press and ended up with this:

Unfortunately, I was a little bit impatient in drilling some of the holes. Most of them turned OK, but some look like this:

Oh well. It still works.

Here she is in the tank:

And during the process, I saw ANOTHER crab in the tank. Luckily, he was in a rock I could remove. I siphoned some water into a bucket, put some frozen mysis in the bottom, and put the rock in there, but raised up on a little plastic cup so that the crab couldn't run back into the rock. Took about five minutes:

nice work on the Crab. I actually have one a little bigger that i need to get out of my tank. I might use this method once i transfer my tank over to the new house. Thanks for sharing

Padrino... Every time I think I have gotten the last crab, there is always one more. Here's hoping this is the last.

When do you move in to your new house?

Also, an update...

The majestic angel has really come out of his shell, so to speak, in the DT. In QT, he'd never go far from the crevice in his rock even for food, but now, he's getting out and swimming in full view even when I'm not feeding.

The regal is eating, but has become more selective again since the move. He lets food that he ate like a pig float right past him now. Hopefully, he gets over himself and starts to eat everything again.

Pics soon!

I got possession of the house june 25th. I have been doing some renos on the main floor/ceiling since. So far i have ripped out all the carpet on the main floor and have purchased an exotic walnut bamboo to replace those sections, I have also scraped off all the stucco on the ceiling in the hallway and dining room and have gone crazy with potlights.

House projects are always fun, especially when they're done :)

Looking forward to seeing pics of the finished product!

lol i'm not sure, i may borrow a empty 125 from a friend to help with the transition but i just spent 2300 on porcelains and like 1500 on bamboo hardwood floors. i have a lot of work to do before i think about moving my tank... Good news is i have my Lifebreath HRV installed so bring in fresh air will not be an issue like it is in my fathers house where my tank is.

I have been on a LOOONG hiatus from the boards, and read this build today.

As they say in the movies...it made me laugh, it made me cry.

Whats the status today ?

I hope all is OK.

Back from the Dead

Reid,
How about an update dear friend?
Rob

Still looking for an update? haha

I've been off the board for a couple of years now. I lost my job, and was out of work for a while, and the financial catching up since then has been tough. Then we had a (human) baby in March of last year. Suffice it to say, during the past couple of years, the funds have not been sufficient to add anything to the tank. Until now!

The fish in the tank did well, but I lost my RBTA when, after the baby was born, I got way off my water change schedule, made him mad and he split into four in about a weeks time. The clowns couldn't keep up, and I was only feeding about every other day at the time, so the majestic angel started becoming interested in them and picked them to death. This does not bode well for my new corals, but I'm hoping that since I've been feeding more, he won't have a reason to go after anything.

I picked up a new RBTA this week, and he's currently hanging out in my frag tank, along with a bunch of frags I've gotten from Diver's Den, Premium Aquatics and Ebay the past few weeks (More frags coming next week... I went a little overboard after not buying much of anything but maintenance supplies for 2+ years.

I've spent a little time today getting the previous pics from this thread back online as well. Going back over everything brings back a lot of great memories... hopefully more to come!

My wife took a couple of pictures this week, too:

No Decent full tank shot yet. I still have some glass scraping work to do!

Reid,
I totally understand, I also have a 7 month old now and timing to build my tank seems to continuously drag on and on. Your pics look sweet though. Looking forward to seeing the FTS when you get things back up to your standards.
Cheers
Rob

Having kids is a wild ride, isnt it?

Are you working on a new build?

Looking at it right now. I can't believe you're on to a bigger system, and I still haven't finished the one we started at the same time. Madness!

Good to hear from you Reid! A new baby will certainly throw a wrench into the mix, they are little miracles!

Looking forward to more updates-sounds like you have some real incoming potential. That Red Sea Regal is beautiful.
