Remote deep sand beds?

The idea of running a RDSB has been in the back of my mind for ages. Just started a 90g and figured this would be the perfect time to implement it. Are there any articles on the internet with tangible results on how a RDSB has benifitted an aquarium? Lets face it, there is no lack of "opinions" in this hobby. What I would like to see is some scientific proof of the RDSB working. Searching has gotten me way too many post to sift through on RC, and most of those have no concrete evidence proving the worth of the deep sand bed.

There is certainly evidence that anaerobic bacteria in a deep sand bed will consume nitrates. You won't find anything regarding an RDSB specifically, at least that isn't more or less anecdotal.

Echoing m2434, scientific proofs are few & far in-between in this hobby.

But results is results...and if properly maintained and undisturbed, a DSB (remote or, umm...local) is good for many, many years. And besides the denitrification, I like the fact that they add biodiversity.

Just my 2 cents,
-R
