Removal of boring snail

I have a well-established crocea, and have recently discovered a rather large boring snail is in residence on the blind side, partially explaining why I have not previously seen it. My question is this: How do I remove it? I can't remove the clam from the tank, due to lack of forethought, he's attatched to a piece of LR weighing in at an estimated 45 pounds. Could I suffocate the snail by covering it's opening with epoxy?

cant u just grab it and pull it off? i dont think epoxy will do the trick

Perhaps what I have is not a 'boring snail'. What I have is a small critter living in a "house" that is PART of the clam's shell. It is not removable. I have tried using a dental hook to impale the critter, but he can retreat far enough so as to be out of my reach. I wish I could snap a photo of this dude, but as I said, it's on the back side, with a rock face 2" away.

i think what ur talking about is a Vermetid snail. there harmless and wont hert the clam,they just look ugly. does it put out a stringy kind of web that catches floating particals?

I poked around with Google a bit and a vermetid snail it is. Thank you, I feel much better now.
I suppose, having never seen one, and being told by many reefers to watch for them, when I saw a snail on my clam I assumed......well, you know.
