Removing paint from tank???

I'd like to remove the black rustolium paint from the back of my tank.
Tank has 3 layers and razor is just not doing it without me scratching the glass.
Need some suggestions plz?
I was thinking paint remover but.... am worried the fumes would be toxic to fish?
 
You can get a water based paint remover. Believe 3M makes it. If you're using a solvent based product around the tank just be sure to turn off your skimmer so the fumes don't get sucked in.
 
You can use acetone also. Its sold at walmart home depot any harware store. shut off the skimmer. and be sure to wipe quickly as it evaporates fast, its much less harsh than paint thinner.

Hey You! :)And what is TNT? lol How have ya been? I'm good, I took on a second job doing reverse mortgages on top of modifications so my time is limited for RC but I try to get on as much as I can,I miss my second family on upstate! (pretty sad huh? were such geeks! lol jk:)

I would be VERY careful using acetone. It has a very low flash point. Make sure all motors, etc are turned off. No candles burning, no lit cigarettes, etc...... It's pretty much like nail polish remover.

Hmm think Ill stick with a razor/hair dryer lol might take me a little longer but my luck Im better off :)
 
LOL good point reefman, on a side note a while back when i was younger and "invincible" and used to to auto body work and smoke. I used to smoke while removing over-spray off parts with acetone. Never had an accident. Dumb luck!!! (knock on wood) Although we did use acetone a few times to purposely start a couple blazes, great replacement for lighter fluid.

agreed...but then again...in lab i use acetone for everything, even around open flames and running pumps. no incidents yet...

ether on the other hand....i shut half the lab hood down
 
only worked here for a year so far...lol....

its interesting though, cause we use acetone in lab like i use water at home. everything gets cleaned with acetone (except acrylic...causes it to haze)

You could try a heat gun instead of a hair dryer. You can buy them from Harbor Freight for like $20. I might keep the heat from the heat gun away from the seams though, as I don't know what would have to the silicone.

when i was 18...i did too...blew up fish in the Canisteo River with nitro....then grilled them. Don't ask.

Heat gun? seals on the tank? think that may be like swatting a fly with a Buick......
