Removing polyps from a combo rock?

i'm a zoa newb, be gentle

I picked up a nice 6" x 4" combo zoanthid rock that's just about covered with great looking polyps. There are some super green (radioactive dragon eyes?) ones, reds, oranges, polka dotted, etc . . . and then there's these large white polyps. The big withe ones are about 2-3 times larger than all the other zoas and seem to block the light of the cooler looking ones. I would say there's 30-40 of them in small groups all over the colony, is there any way to remove them, or will that hurt the rest of the colony.

Thanks.

Here is a pic I just took to better explain. The far left side is a little closed up as I just re did some of the rock work and had to move this colony a little.

YOu can blow water to make all of them close up, take the rock out and use scaple, knife to chip the large protopalys off the rocks.

Hi iLLwiLL and 650-IS350:) ,

Do the protopalys over grow the other zoas , if you don`t remove them ?
I also have a combo rock with some of those same larger protopalys.

I think those coffee brown protopalys will grow a lot faster, larger and will shade some of the polyps under them.

I don't keep those protopalys in my main rocks as they grow super fast and are invasive growers. I used to keep them in the sand bed. That's just my opinion.

I pulled the rock and tried to use a scalpel to cut away the palys, what a major pain that was. I ended up using tweezers to just pull the unwanted heads off and didn't worry about trying to save any for frags. It looks so much better now that I can see what was under there even tho the colony is still half closed up.

Thanks for the help.

what about stirring up a kalk mix and use a syringe to squeeze onto the polyps you want gone? Will that hurt the polyps that we don't want eliminated?

Or you could practice fragging polyps when cutting them out, and when you have enough of these guys, scrape off the rest -
