Removing teeth from overflow

I have a 200DD and the water touches the center cross brace. I know this is a common problem. I was thinking about removing the bottom 1/2 of every other tooth to let more water flow through the overflow without leaving too much room for snails to sneak past. Anybody see a problem with this?

On my old 180, I cut them out completely and put gutter guard across it.

Is it a common problem? I've seen dozens of DD tanks in operation, and cannot recall one where the water level touches the braces (certainly doesn't on my 265). How much water are you trying to push through the drains?

Usually you would try to match the water pushed up from the sump to be approx the same rate as your skimmer. Perhaps you are exceeding the amount of flow-through your system was designed to handle.

are your drains at least an 1" in diameter? picture of plumbing? hard to believe the drains can't keep up with the return pump.

This is only a common problem when you are pushing too much flow through your sump. I slowed mine way down to alleviate the problem.

I'm only using 1 overflow and I did try to match the skimmer and return flow rates which is roughly 600gph. I guess I'll just dial back the return pump.

My best friend has a 250DD and the center brace touches with water when the tank is running. From the way his looks they built the tanks that way to have the water touch the support? When in doubt call the manufacturer of the tank and ask them
