Any thoughts about safely removing these from my Maxima's shell? Would a dremil's vibration cause harm to the clam? I wouldn't care about them if they didn't cause such a mess with their slime nets.
wearing a heavy-duty pair of gloves you can just rub them off- if need be; removing the clam from water and subjecting it to a dremel would definately stress it out, imo....could you say a bit more about slime nets? the vermetids i have just extend a stringy bit from their opening to collect food-
My Vermetids are pretty big with VERY thick shells. The slime is for collecting food, but they're always collecting. I could chip the shell away bit by bit with some plyers, but I figured a dremel would be a lot faster for the clam to have to sit through.
Just take a pair of longnose pliers, and crush the vermetid's shell where it coils, and pull the wormlike snail out and feed it to your fish or anemone or crab or shrimp or cat.
I've tried that. I guess you'd have to dry the opening of the tube first, because if you do it when it's wet, the slime coating the snail leaves keeps the glue from sealing the tube, and the snail just pops out the plug the next time it emerges.
Good point Creep, most of the gastropods iv seeled up were rather small, nothing large to worry about, and i have had them pop the plug a few times before i found that if you try to get it down the shell as best as possible if normally works.
