Auto Water Changes
Auto Water Changes
Yesterday, I setup my continuous water change system. I am using a
LiterMeter III Precision Dosing System with the
LiterMeter III Water Exchange Module attached. I have BigE and Wspangler to thank for pointing me in the direction of the LiterMeter III. I chose this setup because of the higher pump speed, precision and the pump design which should have a long life.
You calibrate each pump by turning on the calibration function and then pressing a button when it has filled up 500ml
One of my pumps is calibrated at 170ml/min, the other is at 196ml/min. The pump controller then figures out how long to pump each pump.
I have the pumps setup to change out about 6 gallons a day. The pump controller divides that up into 150 doses each day. Pump A pumps the water out of my aquarium and into the sink. Then pump B pumps water from my saltwater barrel into the tank.
Since it only does a little bit at a time, it doesn't trip my freshwater topoff - which was a major concern of mine.
So far, so good with the system and I am excited about its potential (probably more excited then what would be considered normal

)
The current setup is temporary while I test the system. I will eventually be drilling a small hole through the wall that separates my tank from the utility room and will run the water lines through it.
Pump A and the integrated controller are on the left, pump B is on the far right. I mounted them high up and out of the way to keep the wife happy
55 Gallon Barrel with fresh saltwater
The bucket has the water that was drawn out from the aquarium overnight, just wanted to monitor the quantity for a while.
