Renton's Upgrade

Their claim: After 4 years of development and research DVH is very pleased to be able to present the Reef Interests All-In-One Biopellets (Patent Pending), which can be used to more efficiently remove both Nitrogen (5x) as well as Phosphates (10x-20x) without the need of using separate phosphate removing substrates. Now for the 1st time there is no need to have to purchase expensive GFO media for PO4 reduction and Biopellets for Nitrate reduction. With this All-In-One simple to use product, Reef Interests All-In-One BioPellets will do it all at an affordable cost with no need for 2 seperate reactors for GFO and Biopellets.

So it is bio pellets mixed with GFO? If that is the case, I am not sure I like that. Where does the gfo go? Does it just break down into small particles and flow out of the reactor?

I wanted more control over the Gyre pumps in my tank so I picked up two Ice Cap Gyre Apex interface modules.

Setup was easy and pretty straight forward. I then got the laptop out and programmed them. I matched up different flow profiles and observed them to make sure they did not result in a wave crashing over the top of the tank.

Each pump varies in intensity and duration throughout the day helping to kick things up and change flow patterns several times a day.

Overall, I am happy with the new flexibility and it was pretty easy to use.

Oh, if anyone wants to share Apex Fusion usernames so that we can view each other's Apex let me know. You can add me with my username of Renton777. Let me know your username and I will add you.

I caught a hermit crab spewing hundreds and perhaps thousands of babies into my tank last night. Here is a rough cell phone video, it was the best I could do.

On the bio-pellet front fyi---

Warner quote from another sponsored forum

"ecoBAK reduces Phosphates in addition to Nitrates.

Approximately 80-90% of EcoBAK and ecoBAK PLUS users never use GFO again."

The one thing I've learned from my research is you need to have a re-circulating reactor to have a better chance for success regardless of brand. That gives you control of the tumbling and the flow separately.

ecoBak Plus are my favorite bio pellets. In addition to regular bio pellets they have a vinegary smell to them. Probably multiple carbon sources to encourage multiple strains of bacteria

Just got a big container of them and will be SLOWLY adding them to the mix as the other bio pellets deplete

I went with the Orphek Atlantik for my frag tank light. It will be a several weeks until the stand is complete and the tank is up an running. I may play with this light over my display at some point.
