I got a used tank and I filled it over the summer and it held water however I noticed the silicone on the corners were funny looking. I let it set since I tested it for water and was wondering if I should pull out tue silicone and put new in. If so what kind of silicone is recommended.

How big of a tank is it? How old?
Resealing a tank is not that difficult, its just time consuming.

Is the silicone hard to the touch, or still pliable and gooey? If it has started to harden, a reseal is recommended.

Tank is about 6 or 7 years old 40 gal breeder. The silicone is hard to the touch, however it is flimsy. So if I touch, like when I was cleaning it, it the edges will move.

That silicone is showing damage from being hit by the glass cleaning scrapper. The actual silicone holding the tank together and providing the water tight seal is behind that fillet that got damaged and is more than likely fine. While it may not look aesthetically pleasing for a display tank, it would be fine for other uses.

A 40 breeder is not worth the effort in resealing. They can be purchased relatively cheap during the dollar per gallon sales at Petco or Petsmart.

Exactly. Typical algae scraper damage. Aesthetically unappealing perhaps, but no structural issues. 6-7 years is nothing for a tank, I've had a couple go 20 years plus.

It would make a fine sump as-is. If you do decide to repair that damage, carefully remove just the inner seal taking care not to damage the silicone that is between the panes of glass. As mentioned above - what you are seeing is purely cosmetic - if you damage the silicone between the panes it will be time for a new tank. I agree that trying to completely re-seal a 40b is just not worth the effort involved, especially if you haven't done it before.
