Replacement Magnavore Acrylicare Pads - "Sponge-like"?

I bought a used Magnavore 6ER algae magnet and then bought a set of brand new replacement pads for use on acrylic, their "Acrylicare" pads. For as obvious as it seems it should be, I'm not sure how the scrubbing pad should attach to the inner magnet.

The directions say the "sponge-like" side should be facing up. It might be outdated directions from when they have the white pads, which have a more obvious sponge-appearing side, but the black ones they sell now are in no manner "sponge-like" on either side. I contacted Magnavore support and haven't received any response yet in 24 hours.

One side of the replacement pad is like a mesh covering which doesn't seem like it would clean algae well, but also doesn't really stick to the velcro hooks on the inner magnet.

The pad's other side is softer and "furry" for lack of a better term and seems like it'd clean algae with scratching, but also sticks to the velcro hooks like velcro should.

Which side attaches is supposed to attach to the velcro and which is placed against the acrylic to remove algae?

This seems like a really dumb question, but I figured I'd rather face ridicule than scratch the heck out of my big acrylic tank if I choose wrong.
