Replacing RO/DI filters

In general, they're interchangeable, as long as you keep the types the same. In other words, if it came with a micron and a carbon prefilter, don't put two micron filters in it instead. And if it came with a 50gpd membrane, don't put a 100gpd membrane in it (at least not without replacing the flow restrictor). If it came with a non-refillable cartridge-style DI stage, don't buy loose resin. And so on. . .

If you can provide a link to your water general unit's specs online, we can probably provide a specific answer regarding that BRS filter pack's suitability.

The people at BRS are super helpful. I would call them and they can tell you whats what. They have helped me with all of my dumb questions.

Looks like you'll be just fine. The prefilters are all more or less the same type. The BRS kit comes with a bag of loose DI resin, but it looks like the cartridge on your water general unit is refillable.

Speaking of that DI cartridge, if the unit will allow it, I'd remove the DI cartridge and re-mount it in a vertical orientation. It's less likely to allow water to bypass the media that way. Horizontal DI units are just not as effective.

I've been using RO/DI from a LFS instead of ordering new filter cartridges. I finally decided to setup my RO/DI again.

Do I need to replace the membrane as well as the filter cartridges or would I be good with just the new filters and DI resin?

I suppose that will depend on how long the ro unit was in use for ;)

I found out about non fillable DI cartridges the hard way... I bought a coralife unit and couldn't figure out how to open it... I was thinking "this sucker is on there good". I really cranked on the top, busted the cartridge and cut my hand pretty good! I took one of the media containers out of an unused BRS dual reactor, filled it with resin and hooked it into the RO unit. Flow is a little slower, but i make water daily so it's not too big of a deal. On the bright side, I am reading 0-TDS.

How long did the system go unused?

We get this question a lot when people buy used systems. Often the best approach is to discard all the filters, sanitize the system, and put in new filters.

Alright, so I just got home from work. Popped open a package with my new filter housing for the RO/DI unit (like a little boy on christmas). Put it on, that housing holds water... great! Then....

Water sprays everywhere. Turns out the next filter housing has a crack as well.... figured i test it out, ALL of the housings are cracked from being kept in the garage over the winter. Also the flow restrictor is cracked. back to the drawing board.

I don't want to replace all the filter housings, the flow restrictor, ro membrane and everything else.

I have brand new carbon and sediment filters and DI resin. I'm looking for an RO/DI that has a good membrane and just needs new pre filters. Anyone have one for sale?
