Results with D&D H2O salt ?

I almost bought a batch but a local reefer warned me that the stuff is horrid. Said his levels were all jacked and caused algae.

Real nice... I hope no one has tried it and doesn't chime in and you decide to try it and hate it. I was just letting you know the warning I received from
a successful sps keeper but whatever.

I tried one bucket awhile back.

My first impression was, wow, I'm glad that bucket didn't fall on my foot.......as the cheap plastic handle broke before I was about half way out of the LFS.

My second impression was that the parameters were all really good.

My final impression was that the stuff mixes pretty dirty. Especially compared to TMPR or the new ESV seawater. The ESV is crystal clear with no residue.

been using it for over 3 years / great levels especially mag. It does mix dirty but the overall salt I think is top notch and very very consistent.

The levels are very good.

Recently though I hadnt been doing alot of water changes, when I did do a water change I noticed an increase of hair algae straight away, I dont know if that was the salt or just conincidence

I have about 1.5 million warnings for you when it comes to this hobby. One person's experience isn't the norm. Every tank is different and you have to find what works for you.

To the OP,

I have used 3 different salts in this hobby. Oceanic, Reef Crystals, and D&D H2Ocean. The first two were terrible for me. Levels always out of whack and I had cyano the entire time using both.

I am on my second bucket of D&D and wouldn't even think about switching back to the other two. $25 a bucket more is nothing compared to a nice healthy tank. Especially when I only go through a bucket every 14-15 months.

I have been wanting to try out the Tropic Marin Bio-Actif salt though but that will have to be next year when this bucket of D&D is gone.

D&D explained why there is a residue left in the bucket after mixing up water. It has to do with their solar evaporative process and adding in a type of GFO that clings to the phosphates and keeps them out of the tank. If any does get into the tank, your skimmer will just skim it out.

You can either choose to believe them or not. Your choice but I love this salt!

Having used IO and then Reef Crystal exclusively in the past, when I got back into the hobby I researched a fair bit before deciding on the D&D H2Ocean. In the UK it is very cheap £50, Reef Crytals is like £80. It mixes ok, and best of all Ca is good, alk too and mg is fairly good too. I am on my second bucket now.

from memory its about 9-10dkh, 1350ish magnesium and 440 calcium, pottasium is also good at 400 ish, I use zeo and never need to supplement potassium.

D-D H2Ocean. Cal 450 Alk 10 Mag 1380. Copied and pasted from the reef chemistry forum.I recently made the switch from instant ocean and I like the D&D. My tank had a little algae bloom (lasted only 1 week) but now things are back to normal. The salt does leave a brown residue in my mixing container but it cleans up easily.

What do you mean by dirty?

I use reef crystals and It leaves a brown dirt when i clean the Rubbermaid with papertowl.

I've used it for 6 months with no problem. The '' dirty'' look doesn't affect the clarity of my tank water. Seeing it's made with real saltwater, has anyone been in the ocean and seen crystal clear water?
