Return Pump in Sump

The size and the shape of my sump is not allowing me to add another partition for the return pump. I have to keep the return pump in the refugium with Chaeto algae and the sand. I am considering two options.

Create a 2" high stand for the pump with the eggcrate.

Create a partition of 4" x 4" in the corner so the pump can fit in it.

Any comments on the two options or is there any other suggestions?
Its 65G tank and Quiet One 4000 return pump.
