return pump

Hey guys I am new to the site. I been reading all forums and getting info but decided to ask my own question. Well Like every aquarium owner i started with a 29 biocube then went up to a 55 and now 2 weeks ago i purchased a 120 on craigs list for 200 bucks with vho wet/dry protein skimmer the works. I got the tank but did not dig the stand so i had a custom stand build. Got it yesterday it is awsome. Now for tank detail. I have a 120
48' x 25" x 24". It has a single overflow thru the middle. the drain hole is 1 1/4 wide and the return is 1'. Now i never had a wet/dry or protein skimmer or sump everything was hang on tank. Questions: 1. Do i need that vacum looking hose for the wet/dry? 2. i dont know the gph of the overflow how can i find that out to the right return pump? and last should the water go into the wet/dry or sump first? Thanks for the help. I will start building today and i needed some questions answered. Pictures will be posted soon.

Personally, I'd pitch the wet/dry. I don't think you'll need it if you're also running a sump. I will assume you're running a reef tank or at least FOWLR. So your Live Rock and Skimmer will suffice for filtration. (Pics would help a little here) Need to see what's doing under the tank.

As for return pump. If you have an All-Glass or Oceanic tank with the Durso pipes (candy-cane shaped drain pipe) they are supposed to be rated for 600gph. I had one on an old 72g. I used to run a Panworld 50px-x (loved it) wide open. That pump was rated for 1110gph. Had no problems.

I highly recommend the Panworld pumps. Quiet, energy efficient, relatively inexpensive. Anyway, see what others say, that's just what worked for me. Tons of good pumps out there.
