Return to the Large Tank forum with a 210G Elos

I wanted 2 of those photon units but it was just way to expensive. You always have the best toys. They were something like $2500 per fixture when I last looked or a little less.I forget Hahn gave me the link of the US dealer. Those units are awesome.

Hey sorry guys - I've been absolutely swamped. I will update soon. I'm picking up a pair of 6101's soon - I like the VT's but they have their shortcomings on large tanks IMO.

Hey David just got my new tank and was debating VT's over 6101's what are the shortcomings with VT's have you found.

Thanks for the help. Hey hopefully you can get some FTS up soon cant wait to see them.

Hi Bogg, do you have the 150 or the 250 watt version?

I have 2 of the 2x 150 4x 39 planet 2's. Are the 250's out yet?.

bogg,

Can your fixture (Planet II) be altered to 250w?

btw David,

cool toys!!! Can't wait to see all of them installed...that would be awesome for sure!

I'm not sure. I'll ask Jesse and will report back.

Uggh, I'm having one of those nights where I'm wondering why the h*ll I'm in this hobby. This tank was supposed to be a blank check setup, and I've had nothing but issues. Some my fault, some delays, some errors, some just bad luck. My 120XL was running perfect. If it ain't broken, don't fix it ...

It is a very, very frustrating evening (and week, month, six months for that part!!!).

Hey cool of David..... you going to wake up the baby :p
What is going on ?
you come out here screaming and don't give as any details :eek2:
At list you have some nice toys you can play with.

LOL Steve. I really hate complaining on the forums. The whole thing has been a challenge. I don't know if there was a single thing I bought that wasn't delayed. Or if it wasn't delayed, I pre-measured wrong. Or what I received was wrong. Literally the following things have had one issue or another: Tank/stand, sump, lighting, pumps, skimmers, chiller. My B2 has never failed me but I had that on the 120XL. Even that I had an issue with the routed hole in the door. Trust me there are other things, and probably still a half a dozen large items that I don't have, or need replacing.

I'm not blaming anyone but myself. I've snapped a few times, have been spending FAR too much time online trying to figure out what I need to do fix things, etc.

The time and energy (and money) I've put into this tank have been immense. And I still have many issues. And of course, when you spend so much energy on your hardware, you don't have time for water chemistry. How I haven't lost EVERYTHING is amazing. But the fact remains that I'd bet I still don't have all my equipment by Thanksgiving, and I started this tank back in April?

Just frustrating. And I've been collecting SPS, assuming things would get better on the hardware front and of course the haven't. I'll bet I have $3K of goodies in those sexy pix that are sitting collecting dust for one issue or another.

Ugghhh ... glad there are no bridges in Phoenix.

I hear ya, it's like one big risky experiment that sucks time and money. I prefer to focus on how cool the livestock is, how lucky I am to be able to get up close and personal with these animals, how great it is for my kids to be exposed to them and then try to forget the rest of the more negative aspects of the hobby.

Thanks Jarhead. I just looked at my tank for 5 minutes. I really can't believe how good my corals look given all the changes. I think there is light at the end of the tunnel ... and hopefully its not a train. :) Just throw in a baby that you get 3 hours to prepare for and the stress of starting a new restaurant ....

Man I sure am glad I said no to the designer on putting a tank in the restaurant!

Elliott - thanks. I just need to get to that point where its all setup - set it and forget it. I think the biggest irony is I have carte blanche and I'm having more frustrations on this setup than any other in almost 20 years of saltwater tanks, including the ones right out of school where I always made the decision of - do I get that cool fish and drink Mickey's all week ...

David, if there is someone who has been through what you have been through, it is me. I have upgraded and downgraded so many times that I have no idea what keeps driving me back to this crazy hobby. We are literally slaves to our tank but somehow we take pleasure in that. I don't really know where I am going with this but I do know that I am in the middle of a new set up! I have almost all my equipment except the tank.:) Man, this is fun!!:) Just think of it as longterm project and not as a short term one. I am the most impatient person there is, but with reefing, patience comes easy. I figure I got used to delays, and other things that hamper us. Don't give up!

sorry I think you missed this one:)

Denny, I just don't like them as the sole circulation for a tank my size. I have tried every way possible to get adequate circulation from four and it doesn't work. I love the wide flow but its a blessing and a curse on a 32" wide tank. I'm going to run two for general soft flow, and two 6101's for flow that will reach the other end of the tank, and possibly wave/surge since I have the Profilux. Actually the Elos B2 will have Tunze controls soon also.

What are your dimensions?

Sang - I totally thought of you. Sprinkle on my firey Latina who wants a clean living room for a baby shower. ;)

Hang in there Dave, I know exactly where you are coming from. I spent so much time waiting/buying/changing equipt. etc. My tank has been set up for a year and I'm still waiting for a few odds and ends and it's already time to change the bulbs in the fixture :D .

Chad

Thanks David my tank is 60"x24x24 it was as big as the wife would let it be. I was wishing for a 60x30x24 but it was just asking too much. Sooo you have two VT for sell?

Sprinkle on my firey Latina who wants a clean living room for a baby shower.

Mine's Puerto Rican, and while we dont have any children yet, (still trying...the best part!), I completely understand the clean thing....

Does yours require a biohazard level 6 cleaning of the entire house if someone is coming over? My wife seems to feel that should someone be compelled to perform open heart surgery in the bathroom, behind the toilet, they should be able to do so without fear of ANY bacteria or other assorted germs.

I'm also warned/threatened not to tell anyone the house has been super sanitized for fear that they might assume that meant the house had been recently cleaned. If the house had been recently cleaned, then that means it must have been messy....

Dirt wouldnt dare enter my wife's bathroom kitchen or bedroom. The garage is mine and so is the basement....so they can be untidy....but never dirty.

Naturally, the first thing I do is point out how immaculate the bathroom is to anyone who will listen...

I'm Irish, and sometimes, ya just gotta poke the bear with the stick to see what happens...

Sorry of this is TMI, and or a thread hijack....just thought you could use a laugh.

Chin up man...it will all get better eventually.

Nick

Dav, has his moment once in a while :) lol. But if you look at his tank, everything is super healthy with great color and PE...

Wow Nick, you must have a tough life.... My wife is the same way... The bad thing is "she doesn't want to do it" in another word, she made me do cleaning :(....
