Nice tank, I've just switched over to T5 over my 40g to give it a try, WOW not bad . With your skimmer producing that nasty nog only means it is doing it thang.If it aint broke dont fix it.

Where in Queens are you located? I'm in Queens and dont know anybody that is heavy into reefing so I can sharpen my skills at the same time seeing other tanks in person other than on RC.

As for switchig over to T5s, I'm really glad I did. Don't get me wrong, I love halides, but the heat was just to much for me in the basement and I wanted a little more flexibility with the color and look of the tank.. You get that with T5s less the shimmer. I think the ones to watch in the future are going to be the LEDs.. I've seen some pretty sick stuff, but nothing long term to compare it to T5 of Halides.

what was the main thing you used to get rid of the cyno? 90% of mine is gone, but that last 10% is killing me.

To be honest, I used multi-pronged apporach. If I had to say what had the biggest impact, I would say a combination of Microbe Lift's Special Blend (a bacterial additive like MB7), ozone (for breaking down organics) and water changes (for manual export of excess nutrients). There are some really experienced reefers that feel like Special Blend is all you need.

Whats the dimensions of your tank and how thick is the glass on your tank?

Thanks Ridwaan! The tank is aprox. 180 gallons and the dimensions are 48" X 36" X 24" High.. The tank is built from 1/2" glass with starphire panels on the front and right sides... The builder used 1/2 inch glass rods as a brace for the bottom of the tank as well as the four corners from top to bottom.

Thank you I look forward to that too.. Hopefully, in another year or so, it will be well on its way there.. In the meantime, I'm enjoying watching it grow and evolve by the day.

My very first Scoly... I've never seen such amazing color.. But why are they so expensive.. Are they rare or something or is It the old L.E. Hype... I had a few redundant pieces to remove along with a pocillopora colony that was spreading all over my tank... Agressive lite buggers.. I traded them in to help break the cost a bit. Anyhow... Here's the new Baby...any tips on helping her to grow would be greatly appreciated.

That is a beauty. I lost mine last week. It was the same with just a little less red. My darn clam sliced it and it deteriorated immediately after that. I really liked the way it looked under my moonlights. Do you have any moons?

That's a tough loss TAZ.. Sorry to hear that. I don't run any MLs on this tank yet. I can only imagine how cool it would look though. is there anywhere to get these at reasonable prices or are the prices crazy everywhere?

Nice scoly Jon! They're at least $200 everywhere I have seen (for the nice ones). They're not rare just a nice coral at a high price. They don't exactly frag that well. I have had mine for 2 years and feed it a bunch of mysis once per week. Seems to do the job.

Looks great Jon. You have to get some frags glued to the tonga branch How is your strawberry shortcake frag? I got mine yesterday but it came browned out. It looks a little stressed from shipping.... hopefully it makes it.

Thanks Rich! That's definitely in the planning.. The Tong Branch is in a very High Flow area so, I am planning to put mostly Millies back there due to there ability to handle the flow.. Any other suggestion would be helpful..

As far as the Strawberry Shortcake Frag, it wasn't as nearly colorful as it was in the picture I received, but it seem to be in good shape. It has more of a cream/greenish base with pink coralites. The polyps are fully extended and I have it in a high flow area a little lower than mid-way up so, hopefully she will do ok... I have bleached some corals by putting them too high under this ATI. I hope yours pulls out OK.. I've seen some really beatiful colonies..

Ok, I decided to eat my own words from a few posts ago. I will need you to completely ignore my previous post about not touching my skimmer... I thought about it... then thought about it a gain and I decided to take a bet on more air injection due to the fact that I carbon/bacteria dose and my tank is in the basement, where the air is more stagnant and my PH runs a bit low... In addition , my fish always seem to breathe quickly, which to me means that they are a bit stressedand maybe a bit oxygen straved. I know it's not the water quality because I really keep up on my water changes.. so, I am giving something new a try... It's the Bubble King Super Marin 250. It injects 2000 liters if air per hour versus the Deltec at 600 l/hr. It's only been running a few days and is still breaking in , so I will be watching my PH and fish very closely.. I can say that the fish appear to be breathing much easier, which is a great sign! Once she breaks in, I will post some nog shots... Until then... Here are a few shots from day 1.
