Returning to what I love - My new 180 Rimless

Wow, simply beautiful!! Great corals and colours. Fantastic!!

I didn't know you have a 'reef central' tang? :lol2: How long have you had it?

Jon,
Very well done! Everything looks fantastic!
For how long do run carx?

mike

Thanks Mike! Right now, only a couple of hours a day.

Thank you Andrew :) Now, if I could just wake up and have a tank full of colonies, I would really be happy  As for the RC tang, I actually had him when we met, I just kept quiet about him so that I would not jinx myself  So far, he has risen to second in command behind the yellow tang. He will remain as long as he doesn't go ballistic on anything. I have friend with a home waiting for him should that happen..

CTX, It has definitely come a long way in a year.. With you being in Brooklyn, You're always welcome to come by and take a look and even grab some frags.. I'm usually available on Saturday mornings. That's usually when i'm doing my maintenance.

Thanks Darryl! I can always look to my friends for great encouragement!

Here are some full Tank shots to go with the others:

Look great Jonathan. Is the left side of your tank black like the back or does it just look that way in the pic. Love the Sohal, hope he does great for you.

Very nice tank! Quick question (sorry if this has been covered before) did you get your sps locally? Also do you know of any LFS in NYC that has a full blown sps reef tank? I been to quite a few and have never seen an impressive tank. I think there are a couple in LI but thats a bit of a drive.

Thanks Brett! Yep, it's black like the back. The builder used a black tinting material. This way, if I ever decided to remove it, I could... That side is right up against the wall, so that's why I decided to go that route.. 36 inch tanks are super difficult to clean when you don't have good access.

If you want to get the most out of your bulbs and get the most PAR you should face all of the bulbs the same way and all of the labels toward the fan side. They are designed to get better cooling this way and in turn youll get more PAR. There is a thread about it somewhere and if i can find it ill post it to you or someone that was involved with the thread can mabe chime in. Tanks looking great though, absolutely amazing!!!

Hi jonathan fantastic tank thread, any chance you have the link on the above? can't seem to find it

The left side of mine is the same way. That's a great idea. The cleaning issue is why I'm scared of the euro bracing on my upcoming tank. I may never decide what to do.:lmao:

Thank you :) All My SPS were collected locally. I haven't had to order a single frag since I started the Tank. There are a few good LFS in the city and a lot of incredible reefers.. There's only one LFS for SPS and/or LPS that comes to the top of my mind and that's Manhattan Aquariums on 37th Street(right up the street from the Javitz). That's an awesome store. Their on-line store is uniquecorals.com.

The sohal is doing great... This is a tough fish in terms parasites... He's been in there for weeks now and no issues at all... keeping my fingers crossed.

I like it because it gives me flexibility. As far as your decision on the tank design goes.. It's a tough one, but either will be great!

Just finished looking through your thread. one word comes to mind "Awesome".

Thank you so much! :)

Here are some Dusk/Dawn Shots... There is something about the Fiji Pink/Blue+ combination that can take your breath away...

HMMM so you use Fugi purple and blue plus as dusk/dawn? I use just the blue plus, i never thought of using the fugi and the blue plus. Maybe ill have to think about that.

Oh awsome tank! Great colors

Thank you for the correction "Fiji Purple" and the nice compliment :) I guess my mind says pink because there is absolutely no purple to this bulb despite the name. It definitely has a pink hue. Mixed with a Blue+, the pop is really nice, but also has a very tranquil & aesthetically pleasing look to it.

JBanks, Don't you find the Purple + and Blue + for dusk/dawn it doesn't seem to blend? Like you can see the color separation. I did the same but with the Blue + (front) and Purple +(rear) and yes the colors are cool but you can see the 2 different colors.

You can definitely see the separation, but from the very beginning I actually liked it. It's actually far more pleasing to my eye than all antinic or blue+ only.
